This place has a lot of potential but is unfortunately let down by the food. Character and atmosphere is exactly what you want for a pub. It’s clearly a local fav given the decent crowd on a Friday night. Some tweaks with the food and they’d be onto a sure thing! I appreciate they don’t use a Mr Yum-type menu as that can give the place a commercialised feel with no heart. I had the chicken schnitzel with chips and salad. Chicken was over cooked and could easily do with 5 mins less or longer. The crumb on the chicken seemed soggy/dense. They’d benefit from using panko crumbs and tenderising the chicken. Also the crumbs fell off in large pieces when cutting the chicken. The gravy was a bit thin but considering flavour was pretty good. Just needs a thicker consistency. The salad had a funky flavour and seemed like it wasn’t fresh, it was too unpleasant to eat. Also, no dressing on the salad which could be easily fixed with a simple vinaigrette. All of the above issues are relatively simple fixes so I feel like it wouldn’t take much to fix. And a lot could be applied to the chicken Parma as that’s what my friends had. It was a decent sized serving and chips were fresh and well salted.
