Lyn’s - so bounteous and generous - including free chocolate! Crusty bread warmed in the oven. Not a bakery - the pho is highly rated. Not my favourite bread style. Very dry and flakey. No doubting the quality of the roast pork - fatty and tender and punctuated by crispy crackling. A good mix of sweet, salty, sour and spicy but perhaps over sauced or too far on the salty side for my personal tastes. The cold cuts was good but again a little too salty and missing the je ne sais quoi of a truly great pate-forward cold cuts banh mi. Very good, but not my favourite. Could it all come down to the bread? I am such a fan of N. Lee’s more yielding chewy crunch to the ultra flakey tiger roll - but then again, N. Lee is a bakery, and this is a dine-in restaurant cafe (I enjoyed the $6.80 iced Vietnamese coffee). But the bread itself I have come to believe is a crucial factor in a banh mi.

CHEAP AND WHOLESOME VIETNAMESE FOOD This place was called VN Wrap and Roll but has changed its signage to "Lyn's KItchen" recently. It serves up a very authentic banh mee, rice paper rolls, pho and a variety of noodle and rice dishes. All delicious! Very popular at lunch times every day. Seating available in the restaurant but many people tend to takeaway. Service is pretty good and usually not much of a wait. Very popular with students and local office workers. Serves good coffee and has a range of canned drinks available. Entry is up a few steps and a door that people with mobility issues might find a little challenging. once inside its all level flooring.

I recently tried the Crispy Pork Bun Mi at Lyns Kitchen, and it is easily one of the best I've had in Melbourne. The only other one that rivaled it was from Vietroll in Caroline Springs, which unfortunately has since closed. From the moment I took my first bite, I was impressed by the generous portion of meat. The fat was perfectly crispy, yet it melted effortlessly in my mouth. Awesome! This is a small, family-owned Vietnamese business, the kind I always enjoy supporting. The authenticity and care put into their food is evident in the quality of the Crispy Pork Bun Mi. I highly recommend trying this if you have the chance.
