Frustrating. Was in a rush for takeaway. Was ready to get my usual pulled pork toastie which is the bomb. So good, they unfortunately removed it from their new menu. So i ordered main st summer salad and the staff said we dont have it since we updated our menu. I was shocked and said you have it on the window posted, he answered im not sure, let me check then he saw it then i paid 25.50 15 mins later only served me a bowl of salad no protein no nothing, i was like im Pretty sure i should have a protein with it then it occurred to Me the server didnt ask me what i protein i wanted with it since he isnt even aware that the salad is on the menu. (I admit its partially my fault i forgot to ask on the counter .) i work in the kitchen so I know theres a standard for the dish. If the customer didnt ask to customise the food ordered then we go with how we normally cook or serve the food. (So the kitchen had the option to choose the protein for me since i didnt specify) unless the person who took my order did something and the docket printed in the kitchen was just plain salad 🤦🏻♀️I asked the staff for the first time if they were still serving me the protein and the guy said you will have to pay more for it, then i said its already inlcuded in the menu isnt it? Then he said no that i have to pay extra. Now i wouldnt be fuming mad if he didnt say it in that way. Its okay to make mistakes, God knows i do make them too. Just admit it then fix the problem. You dont even have to apologise. I paid 25 for a small bowl of salad? I don’t think so. I checked the menu again, and i was right i dont need to pay extra for it. I asked the pretty kind girl who usually takes my order when im there she straightened everything. She kindly asked me if i requested for it when i ordered it, i was like no because the guy who took my order didnt even know the food i ordered was on the menu. Explained that He Didnt even ask me anything, he said oh “found it, its 25.50.” The kind girl fixed everything for me. Im still disappointed with what happened. Wasted my time, got angry with an easy problem. My partner and I love their food thats why we keep on coming back here if we’re in a hurry for work and i dont have the...
Read moreI really like this place, I don't know why but I like the atmosphere, people watching and the décor, from there on its pretty much been a down hill slide for the last few months and its a real shame. I still eat here at least once a week, in the hope of it moving forward. I work as a head chef in the city and with the size of the kitchen at main street can understand the time delays sometimes, with the amount of covers they do it must be a real juggling act. We ate hear last on Friday 18th, we ordered quite a few plates over a couple of sittings. The level of service off the first waiter was bad, the was no acknowledgment, he kept looking at us from behind the doorway (we were sat outside ) and then finally he came over, not sure why as we then we had to ask for water and menu's, 10 minutes later we got the menu's, water never came, so we ordered a pint of Taxi and a glass of sparkling, the drinks were promt so no complaint there, our dips and olives arrived and were spot on, ordinary but enjoyable, we also had the panko crumbed prawns which were ok, one was under cooked, the sauce was tasty but it was just another dish available at pretty much everywhere else in mordy. Next we had the duck pancakes ( cold, should be served at OHS safety temp ), couldn't eat them, then the aranchini, bland and served with a squeeze of balsamic reduction, by this time we had a new waitress and she was great I wish I could remember her name because even though we did make comment of the food, she really did her best to apologise and make up for it. Looking forward to the awesome new menu, hope it shakes things up a little, it needs it. While my review might seem negative, let me end by saying I like main street, I think its great for Mordialloc and the community, when it first opened until about 6 months ago the food was great, the service was great and it was a really enjoyable place, not sure what happened whether you guys have spread yourselves to thin opening your other venues or its just a slight slip, but bring it back main street, we need at least one good...
Read moreWe ordered breakfasts for six people, ranging from poached eggs with sides of bacon, hash brown, avocado and haloumi to eggs benedict (one with salmon), crushed avocado etc. Later that day the café sent an e-mail inviting feedback on our visit; requesting any negative feedback be forwarded directly to them (which we did). While the table service was friendly and prompt, the meals were poor to say the least and, as no acknowledgement was received to our email over a week later, I thought I’d post our review of the meal:
(1) All six people commented that our meals were very cold, and by cold I don’t mean warm, but were actually cool to touch.
(2) A side order of hash brown is supposed to be two hash browns (as listed on the menu), however I was only served one cold one.
(3) The haloumi on one person’s plate while generous, seemed extremely ‘greasy’.
(4) Half the side order of avocado served with one of the poached egg meals was brown in colour (and would never be eaten).
(5) The avocado in the ‘Crushed Avocado’ breakfast was minimal and spread over the toast as thinly as you would spread vegemite or peanut butter.
(6) Coffees that were ordered as ‘extra hot’ (while great coffee) were also repeatedly served warm.
Someone was going to mention the brown avocado to a staff member and perhaps send it back, but when we realised that all the meals were cold (as well as the other issues) I suppose we just couldn’t be bothered. We didn’t want to make a fuss at the time as the café was quite busy (as were the staff) so we simply paid and left when our allocated seating time was up.
I’m only writing this review after receiving no response to the email to the café, in the hope that others will have a better experience. I should add that we have had better experiences on previous visits to the Main...
