Nice restaurant, was excited to finally try this place out after hearing/reading about this place. I arrived too early for a 1.30 appointment so happy to find this place open at 11:35. I was quickly shown to a table, provided a menu and the server was anouy to leave. I asked if order would be taken at table - No, you have to order at counter hmmm … would have been courteous if she had said that at first instant, but ok.

I decided nasi lemak ($13.50) sounded safe enough to try and they had sambal sotong which could be ordered extra for $6, plus teh tarik. Went to counter and ordered my food, no problem. Within 5 minutes my teh tarik appeared. Not bad.

Tables were slowly filling up. The restaurant seemed to fill up left end of restaurant first instead of offering middle or right side to people coming in - just minor observations by me. Then my nasi penal arrived and I told myself: looks delicious. Took my photos of the food and drinks and started on my food. 😳😳😳 what !!?? Why was the food cold ? Is this how they serve nasi lemak here at Nanak? Even the additional siting sambal was cold. The sambal was also sweet. Becos I am on low sugar diet I am more sensitive to sugar in food. Oh dear, what do I do. ? I did not want to make a fuss. Taste was not great either.

I surreptitiously watched my neighbours - they were busy chatting and seemed too engrossed in their conversations to worry about their food. is it just me? Or is this how the nasi lemak is usually served? Ahh … I was in no mood to complain or request heated food I ate what bits I could, then left - never will I return to this place.

Sorry, Mamak team, hope I was just a single...

No protein for Vegetarians. Like most restaurants they don't understand that vego's need protein same as meat eaters. Imagine ordering a chicken or meat curry and you get served a curry with carrots and potatoes and no meat. That is what the food is like here for vegetarians. I ordered the vego curry with lentils. Maybe it had lentils but if they were there there were few. So after paying $26 for dinner I was left hungry had to go home and eat some nuts and tempeh to get some protein. I would love to see one vego meal with the same weight of tempeh or chick pea as the meat eaters get. Or bring your own meat free protein and add it to your meal is another option. Aside from that, the food was delicious, served quickly, the staff were excellent - efficient and cared about the details of how they laid out the dishes and helped us - which in such a busy "fast food" restaurant shows they are well trained and well chosen. The wait staff seem to take pride in doing a good job and caring about their customers which was really impressive. The QR code menu ordering system worked flawlessly which can not be said for other places. There is a great lively atmosphere here and it feels as if the vibe of Malaysia is in glorious...

Went on the 5th of July at 9.30pm. The waitress was not pleasant and was not keen on serving. four waiters but service is poor. First sign of a good eatery is the service, clearly they need to train their staff better.

Took fifteen minutes to order two dishes. Waitress was not keen on serving us again. Surprisingly the plates came out quick but the nasi lemak, a national dish for Malaysians, was poorly executed. The coconut rice lacked the the rich aromas of coconuts and in addition, it was wet and lumpy. The highlight of the dish was the sambal and the fried anchovies. That tells you a lot about the poor quality of food. The prawns were scarce, paying an additional $5 for a few prawns. Very disappointed. Go to paparich, even though it's nothing like Malaysia, but at least it's OK.

The second dish was nasi Goreng. The only good point about this was the wok smell. The fiery wok smell. Everything else was terrible. Sweet sauce and more carrot pieces than rice.

Waitress at the counter cannot add or subtract money from the bill. More like cheap fast food that is ten times worst than Street food for a price double its street value.

Would not recommend nor come again. Very disappointed with...

I recently visited with high hopes, but unfortunately, it fell short in several key areas. Firstly, the food was a major letdown. I expected authentic Indian flavors but was met with dishes that lacked the richness and depth I associate with Indian cuisine. The spices felt muted, and the overall taste was bland. I tried a few different items, hoping for a standout, but none managed to impress. It was disheartening to leave a restaurant feeling unsatisfied after a meal. The service also left much to be desired. While the staff was polite, they seemed overwhelmed and disorganized. Our orders took a frustratingly long time to arrive, and there was a noticeable lack of attentiveness. On a positive note, the ambience was decent. The decor was inviting and created a nice atmosphere, which is a silver lining in an otherwise disappointing experience. However, the setting alone can’t make up for the lackluster food and service. Overall, Mamak Melbourne has the potential to be a great dining spot, but it needs significant improvements in its authenticity to truly stand out. I left feeling underwhelmed and unlikely to return.

Came here for brunch on a Sunday afternoon. Weekend, there's a 10% surcharge. Restaurant is spacious and easy to find. Ordered through their online menu and food did not take long to arrive. We ordered Nasi lemak, beef satay, Ayam berempah and ais Kajang. Portion for the nasi lemak was a little stingy on sambal and anchovies but it was expected. Satay was nice and tender and delicious. The peanut sauce was nicely done and generous serving. The Ayam berempah was crispy, tender and delicious. The spices were slightly over powering but overall, we enjoyed the chicken. We asked for the ais kacang to be served a little later and when they brought it, it was disappointing. Did not look anything close to the generous portion in the photo. It only had minimal amount of grass jelly, red bean and cream corn. No peanuts, no cendol, no other toppings. $10??? That is not right. I'd stay away from ordering the cendol or ais kacang If the portions are going to be so skimpy. I had eaten at the Sydney location and remembered my good experience there. Sadly, this location was a little half hearted in presentation, hence minus 1 star.
