Cosy, modern ambiance with a funky, good old service ...

We could definitely do more Pasta night on a wednesdays, a bowl of pasta, shared salad, bread and a glass of wine for $35.00 ... I was disappointed when Dan told me that they run out of pasta, but so glad tahts they did and I was assigned to the Risotto by Dan. I'm not a fan of Risotto, as us Asians calls it a glorified steamed-rice 🤣 but so glad that I did, took it for the team. Had a nibble of my foodie friend's pasta, it was a perfectly cooked handmade pappardelle but lacking the wholesome sauce and seasoning.

Food ✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️ for my Risotto, mall serve, but easily one of the best ones I've tried, wholesome, buttery and perfectly cooked. We haven't try the rest of their menu, soon. Wine ✔✔✔✔ a story book of good long wine list, by the bottle and by the glass, locally currated, can't go wrong. Didn't try their cocktails this time. Venue ✔✔✔✔✔ quaint, tight and classy, just need to clear out the wasteland to the toilet. Service ✔✔✔✔✔ friendly, warm and very very attentive ... they don't even mind splitting the bill 7 ways ...

Would we go back? YES What's not to like ... and more to explore

The search for the best wine bar continues (tough job this heh heh) ... and Mathesons was defo a pretty good find!

Even though Zip and I got kicked onto the footpath (no pooches allowed inside. Hmmm, funny how some places allow and some don't- anyhoo), it was still a nice wee experience.

Nice to have a cheese and chacuterie board combined - and loved the sizes too, It even came with a small range of crackers (nice when you get variety) and the pickled onions and quince quite tasty too.

The girl who served us was quite nice, friendly and prompt and the the Rosé hit the mark :)

I'd love to know what the council allows for these side walk seating areas - as the barriers Ive seen are just a bit naff and really, it aint gonna stop a 20" rim going up me clacker (so far, no clacker has been hit). Anyhoo- I digress..

I’ve been a huge fan of Matheson since my first interaction with Dan when he first opened, over 3 years ago. I got takeaway during lockdowns, I’ve brought friends and family, I’ve celebrated a birthday there, and my partner and I have been frequenting pasta night almost every fortnight for over a year. We’ve got our own spot at the bar (and since having a baby, Dan and the team have accommodated a shift to a table so we can fit the pram in too!), and the staff all know us and our food/drink preferences. Dan, Simon, Manny, and the team are so welcoming, the food is delicious, and the wine list is the perfect balance of well curated and super reasonably priced. No matter how my day has gone, my night is always better when I go...
