Union House is one of those rare pubs that instantly makes you feel at home while still offering something a little bit special. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between lively and relaxed - it’s welcoming without ever feeling overcrowded or chaotic.
The staff are genuinely friendly, attentive, and seem to know exactly when to check in and when to let you just enjoy yourself. They’re also impressively knowledgeable about both the drinks list and the food, which makes ordering a pleasure.
Speaking of drinks, the selection here is top notch. They’ve clearly taken the time to curate an excellent range ... whether you’re into classic beers on tap, local craft brews, quality wines, or a well-made cocktail, there’s something for everyone. The bartenders put real care into what they serve, and it shows.
The food is another standout. It goes well beyond your standard pub fare: hearty, flavourful, and beautifully presented, while still being approachable and comforting. Everything tastes fresh and thoughtfully prepared, and the menu caters nicely to different preferences.
The space itself is a gem :-) cosy corners for a quiet pint, larger tables for groups, and a great flow throughout. It feels like the kind of place where you could pop in for a quick drink after work, stay for a long dinner with friends, or settle in on a Sunday afternoon and lose track of time.
Union House is the kind of pub that sets the bar high. It has heart, charm, and quality running through everything it does. I’ll definitely be coming back...
Read moreRuined the experience for my friend’s birthday celebrations. I’m all for enforcing rules but punishing the whole group and ruining the experience for everyone who was doing the right thing at the cost of someone who wasn’t associated with me in particular? There needs to be consideration for that. I was in the middle of a drink and awaiting the arrival of my of my food before a rude attendant just flat out told me that I needed to go. I needed an explanation as I was confused. When another attendant explained it, I was more than happy to leave but you cannot kick me out at the expense of me still waiting for my food and not providing an adequate reason. I don’t appreciate been spoken to rudely when I wasn’t in the wrong. I followed up on where my sauce was which was supposed to be served with the purchase of the chips, she rudely told me it’s not her problem and to go down stairs. Don’t speak to your patrons as if we’re all criminals. Train your staff!!! Thank you to manager who explained it properly and I was more than happy to leave albeit disappointed as I don’t even know the person who brought in the external drinks! Not associated, I just know the birthday girl! Thanks but no thanks, good venue but left...
Read moreUnion House is a vibrant, lively and jovial pub in the heart of Richmond. However, its potential is hampered by poor management.
I made a booking for 10+ people a few weeks in advance and received a response from management that we would have a table for the night at which we could eat. Surprisingly upon arrival, we were given a table for 4. Speaking to management, they stated that they don't do numerical bookings, but rather a table allocation and they would not be finding seats for the other 9 people. In stark contrast to the correspondence in the past, I was unimpressed.
Now that 13 people's dinner would be at staggered times, I thought we would get our food promptly. I was lucky and received my food in a reasonable manner, but my friends waited 2 hours for their food. For a menu that would be considered on the expensive side, collectively we thought this was sub-par.
On the other hand, the drink service, bar staff and food taste...
