🥯 #9 Smoked Salmon, Avocado, Dill and Caper Cream Cheese*, Tomato, Lemon Oil Mile End was founded in 2016 and is Melbournes first wood fired bagelry, inspired by the bagel shops of Montreal and New York City. A Montreal bagel has a sweeter dough, is boiled in honey water and cooked in a wood-fired oven. 🥯 Now I’ve had many incredible bagels in Melbourne before but sorry this just ain’t it. I have been to both Brunswick and Fitzroy locations and had an almost identical experience both times. The service is cold and uninterested, no smiles just a “hurry up, order and pay” vibe. The bagels come in many varieties however are small, dry and rock hard, so much so there is zero hope of anything actually staying inside the sandwich. This is a salad now 😂 The fillings are out of proportion, there was so much tomato I could not taste a single bit of salmon or any other ingredient. I have to say I ordered the Brisket bagel the time before and that filling was a lot tastier. 🍅 For their juices they just pour from one plastic bottle, into another plastic cup with ice and seal it with more plastic. $5-9 for a juice that’s not even fresh. Why not save some plastic and just sell individual bottles? 🍊 I’m actually wondering what Melbourne thinks is a good bagel considering how popular this place is. I won’t be back for these as second time was not a charm.

I gotta talk about the bagels here cause they’re such my type. It’s crunchy on the outside but still soft and moist on the inside. The everything bagel is *chef kiss*, in every bite you can taste the toasted sesame, onion/ garlic and a bit salty, highly rec you to try it! Smoked Salmon, Dill & Caper Cream Cheese: Right down my alley😌the cream cheese & smoked salmon ratio is perfect, not too much that makes it sour but enough to make you satisfied. I love dill. Nothing goes with salmon better than dill. They also add tomato and onion, which bring the perfect balance it needs 🍅 Brisket Pastrami, Pickles, Cream Cheese & Apricot Mustard: even the name sounds good 😂look how thick the bagel is haha. I freaking love how the sour cream cheese combine with the slightly sweet mustard! I know it sounds weird but trust me it’s sooooo good 😍 My oat flat white was amazing. The thing about oat coffee is that sometimes they dont use a good oat milk (sorry starbucks but yes im talking about you). I dont know what Mile End uses but one of the best coffee in my opinion 😎 (even tho it’s a bit expensive for the size 🥺) Plus: they have an app which you can order for pick up📱and you can build your own bagels how you like it 😉 —— 📍Mile End Bagels 🍅4.7/5 💵 ~$20 (coffee + bagels)

I’ve finally got to try this spot after driving past it so many times! Almost always there’s been people out the front even on weekday mornings. So glad that my dad and I got to grab breakfast there this morning. We got the monthly flavours of tuna melt and almond croissant. The tuna melt was amazing absolutely delicious 10/10. The almond croissant wasn’t for me but if you’re an almond croissant fan definitely check it out! In either case Mile End Bagels does an incredible job of combining and balancing multiple flavours in a way that is just so palatable and satisfying. On top of this though the customer service is some of the best I’ve received in Melbourne. The kind young man this morning was patient with my dad even when he can honestly be a bit hard to serve 😭 So grateful for my visit to Mile End Bagels after so long of wanting to try it out 💕

Lunch here for 3. Outside of Mile End Bagels is very unassuming, unless you look carefully you could walk right past and not know they're there. Very San Francisco/Hipster vibe from the Café, Staff and most of the customers. Loved the "No Yuppies" poster next to the doorway!! Smallish menu of Bagels and pricey for what are very small bagels, about the same size as a cinnamon donut. About 1/2 to 1/3 the size of a Glick's. Prices are from $8-$14. There were only two savoury Bagels to choose from and one sweet when we were there on a Wednesday late lunch. We had 3 bagels, a Pastrami, Smoked Salmon and Smoked Chicken. All were really delicious and generously filled, especially the pastrami, which had close to 2cm thickness of sliced meat! Bagels themselves were delicious with a nice crust and perfect chewy texture. We were also given 3 complimentary raisin bagels when the waiter gave us one of our orders on the wrong bagel. Had Coffee as well which was well made by the Barista with some nice Latte art. They obviously are aiming for a sustainable future, with stainless steel straws in the drinks, low impact Toilet paper, takeaways in brown paper bags rather than plastic etc. Coffee was locally roasted as was the "Rockies" lemonade made in Brunswick. Loved the food and wait staff were friendly and helpful. Only negative is the smallish bagels and ALL the tabletops I tried were REALLY sticky, with my jacket/sleeves constantly sticking to the surface. I'll definitely drop in for a snack next time I'm...
