Terrible food and customer service.
We asked as we entered in the restaurant if Injera is made authentic way. Was told yes but we add some self raising flour. Instead it tasted like white flour with too much baking soda no Teff as such. No fermentation at all.
When we complained the guy told us every restaurant makes it this way. We have tried many in Melbourne. I am yet to find one taste like this. Which part of Authenticity they did not understand.
Every single dish was tasteless. Our friends who tried African food first time was not happy at all. And could not even eat half of their food. But as we did not want to waste they took it ( lamb & chicken dish) home to fix it.
When we tried to pay was told EFTPOS machine is stolen 3 days ago and only cash. When asked why did not they put a sign to say only cash. Said it's only you complaining. when every single customer was complaining and was not happy with them not saying they only taking cash for last 3 days. How much effort it is to put a sign I wonder.
Now we had to go hunt for cash. The owner starting screaming calling us rude, when he was the one being rude and serving not acceptable quality food. Told not to come to the restaurant which offcourse after eating overpriced tasteless food we were not going to come back or recommend it to anyone. Stay away from this place. Terrible customer service, food,...
Read moreI celebrated my birthday with my husband, Lou, my nephew, Caelin & his wife, Ebony at Nyala African Restaurant. Nyala is a lovely restaurant with beautiful African themed decor. Younis attended to us and was very attentive, genial and courteous.
Lou and Caelin had the Ethiopian lager, St George and I had a glass of African moscato. We ordered Babouti, Abeba gomen, Lentil dip, Beg tips, Kuku nanazi, Futari, Beyaynetu, injera and rice (Nyala offers both injera & rice which is a big plus). The food was aromatic. Every dish was superb and so delicious.
In keeping with Nyala's custom, I was given a complimentary African tart with ice-cream for my birthday. It was yummy. We all enjoyed ourselves very much.
Special thanks to Younis. I very highly recommend Nyala.
Very happy...

Nyala was one of the few restaurants open on Christmas Day for dinner and hence we ended up here after making a reservation. We were a group of 6 pax and ended up ordering 3 starters and 6 mains. The mains came along with the side of Injeras or rice. The injera was really good and I’d definitely recommend folks to have that.
Among the starters, our favourite were the Babouti and Dip Combo. Among the mains, the Beg Tips (lamb) and Domeda (beef) were the standout dishes in my view. For drinks, a couple of us tried the Ethiopian Honey wine which was quite nice too.
Overall, we enjoyed our meal here and would definitely recommend a visit to this restaurant for Mel visitors...
