Read moreI've always walked past OHGam on my way for some late night ramen but this time I thought I would give it a go along with a friend.
The service was acceptable and the food selection was decent for a Korean AYCE restaurant.
I wasn't expecting A grade quality meats but my main gripe wasn't the average meat quality but it was the bad marinades that were just really too strong and overly flavoursome.
Toning down the strong taste of the marinades would have done wonders for the overall food quality. I'm Asian and throughout my whole life I have eaten some strong dishes here and abroad in asia. Thai cuisine and rural Lao dishes can be very pungent and I've eaten plenty, my other reviews are proof that I have an interest in S.E.A cooking. So when I am complaining about how the meats were over marinaded I'm just not a person who has no basis to compare.
The strong marinade was made all the more noticeable by the cooking method, this being a tray on gas. Cooking meat like this is really brave as no other external factors can effect the taste of the meat unlike cooking on coal where the coal and open flames do affect the meat; cooking on tray the meats taste is almost fully dependant on meat quality and marinades. In this case OHGam really failed the taste test, my dining buddy took a few mouthfuls of meat and stopped and only had some rice with noodles. I tried to be fair and ate at least a few dishes worth of meat assortments but they all just tasted like the marinade, the chicken, beef or pork made no difference to taste.
If the owners of OHGam ever read this, please have a look and re-assess your marinades a bit. Try a difference soya sauce, vinegar and honey, mess around with the amounts and the marinades time. Please just do something before a competitor opens close by who will pay attention to...
Read moreThis place was disappointing. Compared to any K bbq place this is the worst. Sure it's cheap and I know why. I truly believe they have hot food left over from their lunch time because of how dry.
We were seated at a table for two with a gas stove you cannot fit even 3 plates on the table I was forced to hold my plate otherwise its half off table.
The meat selection is good. You bbq on a hot plate with paper. The paper burns quick in the middle. The meat only cooks in middle and uneven on outside plate. They also leave on low flame that meat is so slow to cook.
The japchae and fried rice was terrible. The noodle was so hard and dry. I informed the guy and girl chatting at the till counter asking where I could throw it out. I told them it was dry and really bad and they didn't say anything or go check. I then tried fried rice and it too was dry and hard. There wasn't much and I concluded it was left overs from lunch time because it definitely was not fresh for dinner time patrons, considering there were only 8 people in whole place including us. I only enjoyed the tteokbokki and didn't dare try the fried chicken. I was surprised that they had no lettuce to wrap meat in but salad lettuce. I just ate the meat which was a good selection. Anytime our paper was burning someone would come swap out.
I wouldn't recommend here or come back. There are way better places for all you can eat with great food, hot food options, better dessert, meat quality, table space, vegetable options like bbq king,...
