Old Quarter - Pho Ly Quoc Su — Restaurant in Melbourne

Following up on my negative review below. I went back to the restaurant today at the invitation of the owner and was super impressed by her genuine and sincere apology and without hesitation she gave me a full refund. She is a very classy and hard working lady. In hindsight I think I should have complained at the time and am now confident she would have sorted it to my satisfaction very quickly had I done that. Finally, contrary to what I said I will give it another chance but maybe not that dish😂 Thanks again for very positive solution to my complaint. Steve Branton.

I ordered the flat rice noodles with beef. The noodles were not cooked properly and barely warm, the vegetables were raw and cold. They use the same very thinly sliced beef that they use in the Pho, perfect for the Pho but definitely way too tough for stir fry and should never be used. I think they threw it all together on a plate and stuck it in the microwave for a few seconds. I ate about one third of it and couldn’t stomach another mouthful. I was really disappointed as this place came highly recommended by a friend who had the Pho, and I must admit that looking at other people’s Pho, it did look good. The food here is to die for, the pho was delicious and the soup was warm and flavourful. The sticky braised pork was amazing, it was so delicious and the pork was the best. The springtolls here are amazing they are crispy but soft and warm, the spring rolls come with lettuce and a delicious sauce that you wrap your springrolls inside. The food is overall amazing and very nicely priced for the portion. The staff were very kind and attentive. The service here is amazing even if they are busy they pay attention to all the minor details. The art here is so beautiful and it makes the room so much more lifted. The art was hand drawn and are so detailed. The lanterns here are so pretty and the decor here is stunning. There attention to detail is amazing and this place is the best. As soon as you walk in the restaurant you are greeted with a very happy and big smile from all the staff. The menu has a variety of different types of food for everyone. I’ve had a lot of Vietnamese food both home and restaurant made growing up in the West side, but I’m pretty sure I’ve never had specifically Northern style before.

In my typical pho I would usually be squeezing the hell out of the lemon slice. However I found the Stone Bowl Pho soup base was flavourful enough yet light, requiring no additional seasonings.

Sizzling Stone Beef took us by surprise with the creamy, peppery pate and peppery beef.

Pho rolls is a must try, very similar texture to the yum cha dish, cheun fun. Fresh pho sheets are rolled up with crunchy veggies and choice of pork sausage/prawn/stir fry beef/lemongrass tofu)
