sushiuokin only specialises in premium quality sushi and sashimi with high quality ingredients like asparagus instead of cucumber or avaocado, authentic imported Japanese toro, wagyu, and so much more. These sushis are nothing less of artisanal and are so intricately made.

The first thing that sets them apart is their nigiri sizes, no it’s not standard, it’s way bigger, the fish/meat cut is thicker and bigger and the quantity of rice is more. So you’d be paying a bit more but you can buy less, since having two/three nigiris from here can fill you up. Also their chef is extremely talented and the cuts of sashimi will melt your heart and leave you in awe. Same thing about their sashimis too, the cuts are bigger and slightly thicker. Feels fresh in the mouth right from the first bite.

I absolutely loved the authentic Japanese toro nigiri, the oily-ness and the melt-in-the-mouth effect that it gave me was fantastic. Must try.

Also their signature sushi rolls are highly recommended. And if you can’t decide what to get order a medium platter of sushi and sashimi, it’s beautifully presented and hand wrapped in a recycled traditional Japanese cloth.

The staff and the manager are such polite, well mannered, helpful and kind human souls. The prices are bit over average, but you’re guaranteed to get only the best and the most fresh quality of sushi in Melbourne.

So take a trip down to Japan with authentic and delicious flavours and freshness of the sushis and sashimis...

As longtime patrons of Sushi Uokin, we've always held their signature roll, with its tantalizing combination of salmon, prawn, and foie gras, in high regard. Despite the lengthy journey from South Melbourne, we made the trip time and again, eagerly anticipating the exquisite flavors that awaited us.

However, our recent experience was a stark departure from the exceptional standard we had grown accustomed to. While the staff remained as warm and welcoming as ever, the quality of the sushi left much to be desired. At a hefty $18 per roll, we expected nothing short of perfection.

Regrettably, what arrived was a far cry from the indulgent delight we remembered. The once generous portions of salmon had dwindled to mere slivers, barely discernible amidst an overwhelming sea of rice. Even the foie gras, once a decadent highlight, now resembled a mere smear, lacking the richness and depth of flavor we once savored.

In essence, what was once a culinary treasure has been reduced to a disappointing shadow of its former self. While we understand the pressures of rising costs, sacrificing quality should never be the solution. Sadly, until Sushi Uokin addresses these shortcomings, we can no longer justify the considerable journey or expense. It pains us to say that our once beloved establishment has fallen short of its former glory.

I was so excited for this new sushi shop right down the road and it DID NOT disappoint! The salmon sashimi slices were thick and a good size, and fresher than other usual sushi shops.

I also tried their Signature roll that tasted great as well. The sushi chef(?) let me taste a piece due to my hesitance at mention of 'spicy mayo'. Now, I regularly make a sauce that's just aioli (aka garlic mayo) and sweet chilli that is my HG sauce... But the spicy mayo in sushi places just ain't it for me. It's always overpowering and as if they add some wasabi (which I'm not a fan off) to the concoction, so you taste nothing but the spicy mayo. Spicy mayo usually ruins sushi for me, just like avocado in sushi, another thing I'd love to mention, they have ROLLS WITHOUT AVOCADO IN IT AND INSTEAD HAVE CUCUMBER! BLESS! 😭

Anyway, the spicy mayo at this place was pretty mild. You can taste the main ingredients of the roll as well. It actually combines the flavors for once. He let me finish the remaining last piece (I'm assuming they only do this because they just opened and are letting people taste test! haha), and I ended up buying the roll! No regrets.

I'll definitely buy from here again and try their other (non...
