Protagonist — Restaurant in Melbourne

VERY DISAPPOINTING. I’m embarrassed this cafe is placed in a pivotal tourist spot in the arts precinct. This could be soooo much more. It USED TO be warm & welcoming, the best croissants and food, newspapers to read & lovely gatherings. Coffee is generally ok…. However not the typical Melbourne Standard! the croissant I had today was pitiful! And the selection was pitiful too…. 11.50 and sold out of many options. Very COLD and windswept NOT a cafe vibe! The old cafe had a better layout and some shelter from the wind and sudden changes in weather.even used to read the paper! It WAS a meeting place… . This new one is designed for customers to ‘move on’ for sure…. No loitering please! WHAT A SHAME LOST...

The Protagonist Cafe at the Art Centre? Let's just say the experience was...memorable. While the setting is undeniably artsy, the prices are a masterpiece of inflation. Great location and good selection and taste. However service is not provided here. I had a coffee here at 11am on a weekday and there were 6 staff members but my coffee order was very slow despite there being no line and only one other order before mine. Additionally there is no table service offered And there are no reusable cups or plates so it is not environmentally friendly.
