A Beautiful Urban Escape with a Great Skate Park!

Alexandra Gardens is a hidden gem in the heart of Melbourne, offering a perfect blend of lush green spaces, scenic Yarra River views, and fantastic recreational facilities. Whether you're looking to unwind, enjoy a picnic, go for a bike ride, or practice your skating skills, this park has something for everyone.

🌳 Scenic Beauty & Atmosphere Nestled along the Yarra River, the gardens provide a tranquil escape from the city buzz while still being conveniently close to Melbourne’s CBD. The tree-lined pathways and well-maintained lawns make it a great spot for a relaxing walk or a quiet break from a busy day.

🛹 Skate Park The Alexandra Gardens Skate Park is one of Melbourne’s best free skate facilities, attracting skaters and BMX riders of all skill levels. The park features a mix of street-style obstacles, ramps, rails, and bowls, making it an exciting place to practice tricks. Whether you're a beginner or an advanced skater, you'll find something to challenge you.

🚴‍♂️ Cycling & Walking Tracks The park connects to Melbourne’s extensive network of bike trails, including the Capital City Trail. If you're into cycling or jogging, this is a fantastic place to start or end your ride.

🎭 Events & Festivals Being in such a central location, Alexandra Gardens often hosts various events, from Moomba Festival to live music performances. It's always worth checking out what’s happening!

🍃 Amenities & Facilities ✅ Plenty of shaded areas and seating ✅ Public restrooms nearby ✅ Close to cafes and restaurants along Southbank ✅ Well-lit and safe at night ✅ Dog-friendly (on a leash)

🚗 Accessibility & Parking The gardens are easily accessible by public transport, with Flinders Street Station just a short walk away. There’s limited street parking, so taking a tram or cycling is often a better option.

Final Verdict Alexandra Gardens is a fantastic spot for outdoor lovers, skaters, and anyone looking to enjoy Melbourne’s beautiful green spaces. Whether you're visiting for a quick skate session, a riverside picnic, or just to relax and take in the city views, this park won’t disappoint!

Would highly recommend visiting if you’re in...

Alexandra Gardens, Melbourne. These gardens run along the south bank of the Yarra River. They were developed in 1904. They connect you with King's Domain and the Royal Botanic Gardens. IYou are also connected with The Tan - a popular exercise track.

There are 2 paths one along the river and one further inland. You can walk along the path and watch the rowers come out of the historic rowing boat houses and row off along the river. There are plenty pf benches to sit on along the way and you can even see the Two Headed Angel sculpture on the other side of Birrarung Marr.

Most the pathways here are lined with palm trees and are a favourite spot for people to sit and watch Moomba water activities and have picnics in the warmer months [obviously pre-post current restrictions].

The stairs leading to the gardens are not steep and can be navigated with ease. There are also shared pedestrian / bike paths so that if you have mobility issues you can enter the gardens this way too. The paths themselves are mostly flat and nice for a stroll or exercise.

You can also get a nice side view of the city and a long view of the Yarra River both ways from this area. Get along to these gardens for exercise or a stroll with the allowed number of friends / family and remember to...

At Alexandra Gardens for Moomba festival. Hadn't been to Moomba for years and years but wandered around for an hour, checking out rides, food offerings and side-show Alley games. Had coffee (decaf soy latte) and 2 hot jam donuts from Dough Truck, tried from 2 different sellers, lucky tickets (both unlucky) and again tried luck on laughing clowns. They have beaten me since childhood, today was no different. There were so many rides for kids, teenagers and kidults and heaps of different food offerings (tacos, Greek, crepes, fish and chips, dumplings, ice creams etc) and many games of skill (shoot basketball, knock down milk bottles, pick up floating ducks etc) and games of chance (lucky tickets). Was packed but not too overwhelming. Take kids and lots of cash. Great location. 6.10 here for the Olivia Newton John, Walk for Wellness, 5k charity walk. Such a great initiative, so many of us all...
