CHEAP AND CHEERFUL CANTONESE This small shop on King Street offers simple Cantonese-oriented food that is cheap and quickly served. The restaurant has a few tables to dine in - or you can order takeaway. It isn't glamorous - simple tables and plastic chopsticks but it doesn't pretend to be anything else. Food is reasonable quality but a bit on the oily side. Good range on menu from truly decadent and unhealthy to pristine vegetarian offerings :) Service is polite and quite fast. It's the kind of place you would go for a quick bite alone or with one other. It is open til 9 pm weeknights which is good for nearby residents. Accepts cash and cards. A range of soft drinks - including sugar-free options.

Got the char kuay teow to go, man was i disappointed. I have had a lot of char kuay teow in my life and this is the one that tasted the least like char kuay teow. The flavours and taste were just not right, it lacked a couple essential ingredients that are a must for char kuay teow. My fried egg came in a ball. Those prawns were not fresh prawns, very obviously frozen as they were tasteless and unseasoned. Also used frozen carrots. It was soooo oily as well! I was super disappointed by this meal, my expectations were from the great ratings left from others who have visited. Never again!

This restaurant has been operating for 10 years already, and is an institution of West Melbourne. It is run by a courteous Cantonese couple with solid cooking skills and experience. I ordered the Mapo Tofu. I was surprised that it came with sliced beef, rather than the usual beef mince. This shows quality. At only $13, this was a bargain. The portions were generous, flavours were very good and the dish piping hot. Would reccomend it to anyone! I hope we can pool together to support our local eateries who are struggling to remain operational with less people coming into the CBD.
