Went there recently (Dec 2024) - sad to report the quality has deteriorated further
Ordered the mix bbq plater. They probably dropped a whole can of food Color in the chicken skewer when marinating. The sheesh kebab was probably dinosaur leather pieces (old and chewy). The mince kebab was dry (poor meat quality overall).
The best thing was the naan (bread) and chutney (sauce) - but hey it’s a kebab joint - you come here for the protein, not the carbs/condiments.
Sad to say this place is giving Afghan kebabs a bad rap. Please improve - used to be a great place before COVID.
Review from 3 years ago: Used to be great value for money. I used to be a frequent visitor - now no more.
Recently have increased prices (fair enough) but also reduced portion size.
Patrons used to be mostly Afghans but now it’s multi-culture (great). Afghans customers now realise the value for money equation doesn’t make sense.
Loads of other restaurants in the same street & adjacent - exactly same menu - better value for money. If a big group, shop...
Read moreI ordered a takeaway charcoal kebab with rice (4 mixed skewers) yesterday and I was really disappointed. The kebab didn’t taste fresh at all. It looked and tasted like it had already been cooked earlier and then just reheated. Since it was reheated and not fresh, the taste was horrible and I couldn’t even eat it I ended up throwing it in the bin. The rice was the same, lacking freshness and flavor. The bread wasn’t fresh either, it was tough and chewy like plastic, very hard to eat. Since we often make kebab and eat this type of food at home, it is easy for me to tell the difference between something fresh and something reheated. For the price and expectation, I honestly expected much better quality. Unfortunately, I wasn’t happy with the food and would not recommend it based on...
Read moreDespite it initially being called a bakery (Sahar Bakery), I was introduced here because of their Afghan tikka kebabs.
They currently still sell their beautiful Afghan bread, alongside a number of Afghan dishes. Lamb tikka being my favourite.
This Afghan tikka restaurant/takeaway place was where I was introduced to the world of Afghan cuisine. I'm afraid that the owners when I first went there set the bar really high, and inadvertently ruined my experiences with other Afghan tikka restaurants. I would have given here five stars, if the new owners since, hadn't slightly dropped their game, also.
Regardless of my "high standards", I believe that this tikka restaurant produce great meals for...
