What a wonderful surprise after driving 45 minutes to Hastings - and the main street was closed for the night at 4pm - a regular feature of seaside towns (some close at 2pm). Probably the best take-away and eat-in cosmopolitan Burger/Mexican/Breakfast cafe in the entire Western-Port region. Who opens until 8pm? These guys do! And all the more fitting considering the massive amount of choices on the menu! I must admit that not much inspires me around this area in terms of food options but if you are eager and have spent the time to travel out here then give Shake'n'Buns a look. Upon first entry the character of the place strikes you with small elements of enthusiastic retro decor reminiscent of a good 'ol American burger joint. Some locals consider this place as the go-to for all occasions - judging by the ample seating and minimal style this is exactly the case. Next you will likely hear the booming voice of the chef/owner - Dennis - who will greet you with an enthusiastic style and invite you in for a cosy meal. Such a character - he comes across as a kind person with a warm and friendly attitude - great fun considering the location, drab main street and approximate position from the beach/parklands etc. Strike up a conversation or listen to this man guide you as he is very flexible - especially if you have alternative dietary needs. After choosing something on the menu you will experience a very decent portion of whatever you choose - a welcome sight for myself as I was more than peckish! Willing to test the chef's expertise I chose a quick and simple Taco dish and chips. With speedy resolve Dennis whipped up a very well rounded and filling meal for the few pennies he was asking for - brilliant. Prepare yourself for a discounted meal without any scant or Lilliputian portioning - these meals are real tummy fillers! On that point I can say that this extremely wallet-friendly eatery will surprise you with a myriad of options, including alcoholic drinks for those of the age, in an inviting and cosy environment. AND DID I MENTION THEY ARE OPEN...
Read moreUpdate: You’ve lost a star because you’re now charging $2 to add pineapple to a burger which is ridiculous when a whole tin of pineapple costs less. And on top of that the vegan mylkshake now costs $3 more than the regular milkshake. Hope you guys don’t go the same way as every other cafe/takeaway place overcharging for everything. Still yummy though 👍
Yummy plant based burger and shake! The burgers all came with fries and we got sweet potato which were great (just needed dipping sauce). The burger had really nice flavours, with a tasty veggie patty and fresh ingredients. Maybe a little thick with the avo but was fantastic to be able to add pineapple without paying extra! SO excited to have a place close by with vegan ice cream and various mylk options to substitute. It wasn’t on the menu yet but they were so accommodating and said it would be added. Wonderful customer service here!! Also the vegan mint slice was delicious! Can’t wait to try more plant based stuff from Shake N Buns as they find their feet in the community. Thank you for a GREAT first meal :)

My one major critique would be that the menu needs some refining as there was a lot going on IMO. It was a bit confusing to read. I think you should focus on the burgers and the shakes (it’s in the name after all) and then just have the rest as sides, salads and desserts...
Read moreHave tried this place maybe 4-5 times over the last 2 years wanting to enjoy it, last visit I had was actually good but today had ended that completely (1 good meal out of 5 I should know better) asked for a breaky burger and 3 hashbrowns on the side, guy told me it's croquettes, ok cool, fried potato yum, he wasn't really sure what I was asking for a bit, even when I said 2 on the side to eat and used hand signals, come time to grab the food, I'm given 2 breaky burgers, asked to have it changed because that's not what I wanted, got 2 more of these croquettes and he threw in 2 bits of bacon for the trouble (here comes the best part) started eating the breaky roll and was off put immediately as it had clear uncooked yolk running off the roll, 2 bites in I realised they didn't even put bacon in the roll.... and the croquettes we got? Burnt to absolute hell and back, cold in the middle and drenched with oil, don't know what people see in this place to always be raving about it, it's terrible and has been since it opened, at least I can say I gave it a proper go...
