After living in Rye and buying food from this place for nearly 15 years, last night's experience saw us vowing to never waste our money there again. We asked for lemon to go with the fish but we're told that they were out. Too cheap to stock it. After spending $113, I asked if we could have a free sauce thrown in due to their 'lack' of lemon. The food was for a birthday gathering dinner, and upon picking up the food after the 15 minutes allocated, the large chips (only a small) were wet, soggy and inedible. The children went without. Upon putting the cardboard tray in the oven to reheat what should have been instantly eaten hot 'flathead', the kitchen permeated with a rancid smell. The trays that this venue serves their cold, takeaway food in are lined with plastic! Hence, your chips and food will be soft and soggy when you get it home. The plastic disintegrated into the $113 worth of food and my partner then took it back and asked for our cash back. The man angrily told us that we shouldn't have to heat the food up - well, yes, we did. Better still, just do your easy job correctly. We didn't ask for brain surgery and I was the only customer in there, tellingly so. Shark Shack is just a plain money making, careless sham. A seaside fish shop who rests on their laurels, taking tourists and locals for an expensive ride, at the expense of basic service and quality. Go to Hectors next to Woolworths or go further down or up the line. Don't waste your time, expectations or money lining this shop's hip pocket. They don't care to improve because they...
Read moreTerrible terrible terrible!!! What a terrible human being the owner is. We were there with our 3 young kids all under 7 years old. We spent over $110 for horrible quality food and sat on the outside table to ear. 2 mins into my kids had started eating the owner came and said we need to move within 5 mins as they are closing and need to take the tables inside. We told them we have little kids and my 2 year old had just started to eat so can he give is 10 extra mins. He said no and I don't care where you go, just leave in 5 mins. I don't care if your kids haven't finished. We got very upset as he started to yell at us in front of our kids. We packed and went to the park across the road, with kids confused and scared. My 5 year old asked me why that man was so so scary and shouting. Worst behaviour by the owner, horrible quality food, extremely expensive and do not even expect a smile on their face. Expect an attitude and terrible food. I am going to complain to a higher authority as he should not be allowed to run a venue like that. Please stay away...
Read moreHaving failed to read the recent reviews before going here i probably deserve what I got! I'm not sure if this joint has been taken over recently as I went here a couple of years back and it was spot on, also most of the negative comments are recent. On this occasion we got a couples pack which was 2 fish, chips, 2 potato cakes and 2 dimmies. Also got 4 sausage in batter and 4 drinks which came to $55, pretty standard pricing. The fish was small and tasteless and the chips overcooked and dry. The potato cakes were also tasteless and the dimmies overcooked. The sausage in batter was awful with most of the batter having fell off during the cooking process. The bad experience was topped off by the ocean of salt dumped over everything which left my lips stinging hours later. Sadly the only nice thing about the whole thing were the drinks. Would strongly recommend going...
