Station Street Cafe — Restaurant in Melbourne

I must start this review with an appreciation for the fact that I believe when I visited the establishment had been under new management for only a matter of days. That having been said, they were under staffed and the food was…bad. While our drinks were delicious (a matcha latte and a tumeric version) the food took well over 30mins to arrive. The beans that my partner ordered where straight out of a tin with some cut up cheese on top and some fairly standard bread, at most there was about two inches of chorizo diced up and fried in it as well. This was not worth the $24 price point. My eggs Benedict were cooked nicely, on some standard bacon with a potato has brown that had clearly been cooked a few days prior and grilled off in a pan with some commercially available hollandaise on top. Again, not worth the +$24 price point. All in all, considering the time taken, the quality of food it was a less than enjoyable experience. It was disappointing to not have had a post on Instagram that indicated new management so that could have been taken into account by new customers. Cafe looks really nice and has a brilliant menu, but it today I ordered a Big Breakfast that had essential components missing from the dish, and neither the chef nor the waiter notified me they were missing and just served me the dish. I had to enquire into it myself to find out they had apparently forgotten some components and ran out of stock on others. This is common business practice that was not observed here. It is understandable if ingredients or foods go out of stock, but it is not acceptable to conceal this fact from the customer who ordered the dish. Would have preferred that they told me those items were missing beforehand so I could order a different dish. This used to be great, but I think its changed hands. I recently had dine-in breakfast and the good quality had significantly dropped. The hash brown was absolutely disgusting, just a blob of oily fried chunk. Unedible. Ecrn the napkins etc were now cheapies. I thought ok, I won't eat-in again, but I'll give them a go with take-away. Today I ordered a bacon and egg English muffin to take away. I was asked toasted? Yes..of course, I don't want a raw English muffin. I was given a microwaved muffin!! Not toasted. Cannot believe it. So, uncooked bread , with a microwaved fried egg, and dripping cheese.
