Went for an earlier dinner at 6:30pm with my friend on a Thursday night, the pub was not busy.
Originally ordered a Chicken Schnitzel and Bangers and Mash over the counter from this waitress in blonde (didn’t get her name). I asked how much it would cost, she replied $46 however due to public holiday there’d be a 15% surcharge on top, making it $52.90 instead if that was ok. I didn’t realize the 15% surcharge so I politely asked the waitress to hold the order and let me return to my table to inform my friend. Upon returning to my table I realized I didn’t have the menu with me so I returned to the counter, got the menu and back to my table.
At this moment, the waitress approached us, she carried the mobile efpos machine on her hand and firmly demanded me to pay now! I told her I haven’t decided to go ahead yet as I needed to discuss with my friend. She didn’t accept my explanation and kept shoving the efpos machine to my face pressuring me to pay up! I’ve never felt so humiliated in front of my friend and I said I would not pay for something I had not agreed. She kept pushing me to pay up and she said the order was sent to the kitchen and it was too late. She kept saying “it’s too late” twice at me. Insisting that I must pay. Her manipulative manner became almost at a bullying state which made me feel humiliated and embarrassed.
I stood my ground. I knew my right and determined not being pressured on this, although I could understand how most people would be backed down by the pressure in this situation.
The waitress said fine and warned that she’ll get her “manager” to speak to me and walked away. As we were still gazing at the menu feeling a bit of a sour taste, a lady approached us later from the kitchen and she wanted to know was everything ok. I explained my side of the story then she told us she’s the manager of the hotel and her name is Sophie. Sophie explained the reason the waitress was asking me to pay up because she has “sent” the order to the kitchen and instead of sending the cancellation she made us pay for the bill. It was the tone and attitude the waitress came across that made us feel that she was manipulative and this service ergo appalling.
Sophie attempted to placate us with assurance that we shouldn’t have to pay for whatever we hadn’t agreed and she’ll simply send the cancellation to the kitchen.
We have ordered a Chicken Schnitzel and a Spicy Cauliflower at the end. In fairness, the meal was pretty tasty and the portion was generous.
As a second visit to Quarry Hotel, I find the service by this waitress and the whole experience egregious. And if this is how she “pressures” customers in similar situations, surely the business will be landing in the firing line of social media vitriol that’s intensifying with every negative comments and complaints.
As we bid adieu to the Quarry Hotel and walking out to the door, I’m sure I...
Read moreDrove by this place frequently and seen the big screen on my way past. My partner and I decided to go there to watch the footy and have some dinner. We had been talking about it for weeks.
We booked a table tonight(Friday) but it ended up not being necessary as it happened to be a quiet night. There was more staff in the place than customers, so it was a surprise when the food came out quick.
I ordered the ribs and my partner ordered the bangers and mash(Both gluten free)
The ribs were delicious I have to say but my partners bangers and mash with veg was awful. The vegetables were barely cooked and the mash was lumpy, the sausages had no juiciness to them and the whole thing was honestly totally bland.
Anyways as we are discussing the food a man who I later found out to be the manager comes over and without a word, and takes my partners plate away. She was frustrated he never even asked about, how the food was? Are you all done? Nothing.
A couple of minutes later he grabs my plate, says noting, again. As he was walking away, I just said my food was so tasty thank you, but my partners wasn’t so much, so I explained it to him our issues, no reply.
So as the manager walked away after not apologising or even acknowledging our presence, I got a small bit frustrated. I went to see him just before we left to explain that I did not appreciate the lack of, to put it simple, care given. I explained everything to him again he didn’t have much to say, still no apology. Only thing I got from him was he did have two complements earlier about the bangers and mash, no doubt.
I don’t write reviews but never experienced such bad customer service in my life $100 really poorly spent and as we left half our food and drinks too, it really ruined our night.
UPDATE.. Just thought I’d let people know, if you receive a reply like below, don’t bother contacting them directly over a week now and no correspondence. Dont...

HOWEVER …
I’ve been in the Quarry hotel more in the past 4 weeks, than the past 6/7 years & was looking at doing their Tuesday Steak tonight and every Tuesday moving forward, now no bloody way !
I reside only 200m from.
The two bar tenders that were on, are so not worthy of their job.
Their customer service was disgraceful, rude & abrupt. Dennis & some tall blond, with no people skills..
Disgusting customer service.
However … The chic running Monday night, YESTERDAY, she actually kills it & deserves a pay rise.
In doing please Give the two low class humans a massive drop financially.
Their attributes to their scope is justifiable at $5/$10 an hour.
Anything more & you the manager or owner will run at a loss. They lost $80 plus tonight, as I left in disgust.
I was craving another steak after dinner, already having ordered not long after the 3 Heineken & 1 entree of salt n pepper squid. Even their squid is becoming worse by the weeks tough & rubbery.
Both bar-tenders tonight were smug & obnoxious … Dennis From Chilli & a tall blond at roughly 59”.
You’ve just lost a customer who’d pay $200 a week.
Now it sucks, I gotta find another great pub close by. Trial by error I guess, as I’m from Adelaide & have class &...
