Yim Yam Thai Laos Yarraville — Restaurant in Melbourne

I have previously been to this restaurant and found the food to be good, decent, well portioned and priced. Not 5 star but a solid 4 star. I decide to host a social event here and unfortunately had a really poor experience.

First, I rang to book a table. We repeated the date and time several times and they missed the booking. No table when we turned up.

We ordered and paid for our food all within 5 minutes of each other. My food arrived within 10 minutes. Great. The other two waited for at least 30-40 minutes. I stopped a guy waiter (young male with curly hair) he said “just a minute” then walked away to serve some other customer than didn’t return to us. I had to stop him a second time, explained that we have been waiting a very long time. All he did was shrug his shoulders and said “I’m sure they are coming”.

So I stopped a different waitress. She went to check up on the food and thankfully they arrived in the next 5 minutes or so. The kitchen most likely forgotten the order but no thanks to the lazy waiter we had to wait even longer coz he simply CBF to do his job.

One lady ordered soft shell crab salad. It came out with several pieces of crab with hard shell that was inedible. When we asked the waitress if that was what the dish was suppose to be, she said, yes the hard shells are edible also.

So a guest has to wait nearly an hour for her meal to be served with something not very edible.

To say the whole experience was disappointing was an understatement. Not keen to return. Which is such a shame as I use to like this restaurant.

We ordered takeaway through Uber eats, and were really disappointed, we received the wrong order but due to the delivery service taking over 1 hour we didn’t want to reorder. There are lots of other options for Thai food in Melbourne so simply thought we won’t use this restaurant again and will order form somewhere else next time! Unfortunately the veggie pad thai (which supposedly included tofu and veggies per the menu) I had was such a disappointment, there was no tofu in the whole dish, 3 small slices of carrot, 5 small pieces of zucchini and 2 pieces of broccoli? The sauce was way too sweet and didn’t taste like other traditional pad thai’s Ive had before. It was a bit of a joke the amount of veggies that were in my dish, my partner ordered the chicken pad thai and said it was okay but we won’t be ordering from Yim Yam again. He had two random pieces of tofu in his, see picture,we joked and thought maybe that was the tofu meant for mine! I like to give honest reviews and don’t enjoy leaving bad ones but honestly for take out options I would not recommend this place. Usually Yim Yam is great quality food however the last two times we have ordered has been very disappointing! A few weeks back we ordered through Menulog we requested beef with red coconut curry but we got tofu instead, my husband was not impressed as he strongly dislikes tofu and is not a vegetarian! We ordered online again tonight and the list of disappointments is quite long: delivery time stated was 1 hour it took 1hour and 20mins, I asked for chicken in my dish i got tofu, we ordered rice didnt get it, the spring rolls were luke warm and soggy and the chicken skewers were cold..We ended up ordering online tonight much to my dismay as last time they messed the order up but i couldnt get through on the phone as the message kept saying mail box full.
