⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Culinary Journey Through India's Finest Flavors
From the moment we walked in, we knew we were in for something special. The warm ambiance and attentive service set the stage for what turned out to be an exceptional dining experience.
The menu offered an impressive variety of dishes, and everything we tried exceeded our expectations. The chicken dishes were tender and perfectly spiced, with each bite delivering authentic Indian flavors that transported us straight to the streets of Delhi.
The mutton was equally impressive - succulent, fall-off-the-bone meat in a rich, aromatic gravy that clearly had been simmering for hours to develop such depth of flavor.
What surprised us most was the quality of their vegetarian options. Too often an afterthought at many restaurants, here they were crafted with the same care and attention as the meat dishes. Fresh vegetables combined with house-made spice blends created vegetarian dishes that could convert even the most dedicated carnivore.
The absolute highlight of our meal was the gajar ka halwa (carrot halwa) for dessert. This sweet carrot pudding was pure perfection - warm, fragrant with cardamom, and garnished with the perfect amount of nuts. It was the ideal sweet ending to our feast.
If you're craving authentic Indian cuisine that doesn't compromise on flavor or quality, this restaurant deserves your immediate attention. Whether you're a longtime fan of Indian food or new to the cuisine, you'll find dishes here that will have you planning your next visit before you've even finished your meal.

I had the absolute pleasure of dining at The Ark in Newcastle, and it was hands-down one of the best Indian meals I’ve had — and I’ve had more than my fair share across Australia and overseas.
To start, I went with the Tawa Chicken — a sizzling street-style dish marinated in bold, aromatic spices. It arrived on a hotplate, perfectly seared and full of flavour. Each bite was a little explosion of warmth and depth — easily one of the nicest things I’ve ever eaten. Truly unforgettable.
For my main, I had the Goat Curry, a recommendation from the front-of-house manager (who I believe is also the owner). What a brilliant suggestion — the goat was tender, the gravy rich and beautifully spiced with layers of onion, black cardamom, and garlic. It was rustic, soulful, and easily one of the top three curries I’ve ever had.
The garlic naan was spot-on — soft with just the right amount of char and butter — and the aromatic rice was fluffy and fragrant, a perfect complement to the curry.
The service was also exceptional — warm, attentive, and genuinely passionate about the food. You really feel looked after here.
I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in Newcastle.
And as for Noah? If he’d dined here, I reckon he’d have scrapped the pairs and just taken two of everything...
Read moreTucked unassumingly on Throsby Street in Newcastle lies a hidden gem: The Ark Restaurant, a culinary sanctuary that promises much more than meets the eye. From the moment you step inside, the warmth of the staff sets the tone—welcoming, attentive, and refreshingly knowledgeable. They’re more than willing to guide you through the menu, offering helpful insights whether you're wary of too much spice or simply looking to venture beyond your usual Butter Chicken order. (Though, for the record, they’ll gently nudge you toward something just as comforting yet delightfully unexpected.) The naan bread—particularly their so-called Butter Naan is the Queen of Naans. Flaky, warm, and indulgently soft, it practically dissolves on the tongue. Pair it with their Palak Paneer, and you’ve got a match made in culinary heaven. While the dish may appear unassuming in photos, don’t be fooled—what lands on your table is perhaps the most luscious, richly flavoured spinach and cheese creation you’ll ever experience. The Ark Restaurant is not merely a meal; it’s an experience. Whether you're a seasoned spice-lover or just beginning to explore Indian cuisine, this cosy Throsby Street eatery in Wickham Newcastle offers something special. Highly recommended for those who value heart, hospitality, and a truly...
