We visited Wharf St with my family for dinner. My mother is coeliac and is always very careful everywhere we dine with her allergy. The main she ordered and a side of chips were both marked as gluten free on the menu. The young waiter come out and told her the main was not gluten free dispite marked on the menu and she changed her main meal. When the side of chips came out with the older waiter she rudely said they were not gluten free and we said we ordered gluten free and she just took them back away with no apolgy or offer of subsitution. When we were leaving we mentioned both of these issues with the misleading menu to the older waiter who was rude and unapolgetic about the issue, which could severely affect someone with allergies health. It is so disappointing as we went with high expectations from other patrons who have been but we left with a poor experience and will not be going back. Terrible customer service and lack of care for people...
Read moreWe went looking for a place by the water for Brunch on Sunday. A stroll along the Honeysuckle waterfront brought us towards Rydges.
There is a small but good buffet breakfast available to all. Lovely selection of seating inside and out.
Tea, coffee and juice is included but barista coffee is an additional charge.
There was fruit, cereals and pastries for your cold selection. The hot foods were bacon, scrambled eggs, cooked mushrooms & tomatoes and hash browns.
There is the conveyor toaster with a selection of breads, there was also a separate area with gluten free breads aswell. Also the pancake maker machine was in operation with a few topping selections including hundreds and thousands!
The one option I didn't spy until I had finished was the egg and omlette station! There is a small menu that you can tick you option from and then take a table number for it to be delivered to you, so sorry I didn't see...
Read moreHigh tea for 2. The food itself was fine although party pies and sausage rolls seemed a bit out of place. However, the experience was not at all comfortable. It was a 36 degree day. On entering the Rydges hotel was refreshing to find ourselves in the air conditioned hotel reception area. However we were then directed to the restaurant for our scheduled high tea. The temperature in this room was unbearable. I did ask if the air-conditioning was actually working and was told it was. Within a very short time we were dripping with sweat ! They opened the outside doors near our table for a breeze, which did not really help and which persisted in slamming shut! Trying to enjoy our high tea in such terrible heat was a challenge. The chocolate cakes melted and became sticky and runny and the finger sandwiches became very dry and unpalatable. My advice.... avoid the restaurant on a hot day unless you are prepared to...
