QT Newcastle A Wedding on the Roof Top. As you drive up to the QT Hotel in Newcastle you are immediately greeted by a very cheerful concierge, waiting to take your bags and valet park your car, which is a very convenient service. The exterior of the building has retained the essence of a time gone by in Newcastle. As you step into the foyer, your eyes immediately focus on a huge glass Moon, which is encased into the ceiling, and the Mirrors create a wonderful impression of being in space. We were here for a Wedding ceremony on the Roof Top, but first a quick coffee and chat with guests in the Bar. We sat by the beautiful windows overlooking the street. While still retaining some of the old-world charm of its bygone era this Hotel has now been transformed into a quirky fun place to stay, eat, drink, and enjoy the hospitality on offer. The Bar area was very tastefully restored and the wait staff very friendly and attentive. As we approached the lifts there are two stunning Mannequins brightly painted by Mitch Revs which catches your attention, and suitcases are cleverly stacked into a wall with mirrors all around. This creating a fun and magical place to stay and explore. Once in the lift the mirror theme continues, and the music starts to play. You can’t help yourself but to sing along. Wow! The Roof Top Bar, The Perfect place for a Wedding. Your eyes are immediately drawn to the spectacular vision of an array of Moon shaped lights hanging from the ceiling. The view from the balcony is simply stunning, you can see for miles across to Nobby’s and Stockton Beach to the City scape. An amazing setting for the Bride and Groom. The sun was shining brightly as the ceremony began. We were guided to The Jones Private Dining Room off Jana’s Restaurant downstairs to continue our celebrations. Let the champagne flow! The table was set perfectly with no detail missed. Our waiter was amazing and very attentive. Our taste buds were tantalized by the New Executive Chef Shayne Mansfield. We had the Shared Menu, which was absolutely superb. The Entre, Mains, Sides and, Oh! Not To Mention the Desserts. It was a wonderful day of celebrations, Thank you...
Read moreI’m torn about my stay at the QT. There were enough things that would make me unlikely to come back, but you might still have a great stay.
I’ll start with the good things. The people working at the front desk were lovely and accommodating. They helped with any little question and were happy to do so.
We stayed in a Deluxe King room with a bath, and it was gorgeous. It’s spacious and feels luxurious — the bath is giant, they provide Kevin Murphy shower products, and there’s a Dyson hairdryer.
Unfortunately, it was a connected room, which meant we heard our neighbours straight through the wall. We heard them speaking, walking around, watching movies, and, worst of all, their bedroom activities. It was all uncomfortably clear.
The beds are extremely soft, the type where you lie down and sink straight into the middle of the mattress. If you like soft beds you’ll be thrilled, but I slept very little and ended up with back pain. The hotel double sheeted the bed, but I ended up also sleeping on a blanket and pillow and managed some small amount of sleep.
There were also two fire alarm tests around 7–8am on a Friday morning, which was a strange choice. After an already dodgy sleep, it was not a nice start to the day.
Parking isn’t ideal, but it didn’t cause too many issues for us. For $35 a night, you can park in a small car park a short walk from the hotel, which is shared with Woolies and a few other stores. There aren’t many spots, so it could be tricky at busy times. The other option is valet parking for $50 a night.
To top it off, when we went to check out there was a $130 bill for a visit to their Jana restaurant, which we never went to. They fixed it up quickly without complaint, which I appreciated.
Overall, I think if you want to stay at the QT, it’s worth avoiding connected rooms if you can, be aware that the beds are extremely soft and might not suit everyone, and definitely check your bill when you’re...
Read moreWe've now stayed at the QT Newcastle on several occasions. On our first stay we had booked a QT queen room and ended up with an "Accessible Room". The bathroom in an accessible room for obvious reasons, however I have a distinct dislike of plastic shower curtains and other amenities in the bathroom, and the lighting was incredibly dark (this would have been difficult for someone who may have been vision impaired). ||I must admit I wasn't prepared to stay at the QT Newcastle again, not only for the type of room we were provided with, but with other issues we experienced during that stay. However, with another trip to Newcastle looming, my husband convinced me to try the QT Newcastle again, and we subsequently did, and we've since stayed at the QT on three occasions. ||The latter stays were a huge improvement on our first stay. We received the rooms that we booked, the rooms are quite spacious and comfortable, although the lighting is still a tad too dark for me. Customer service is friendly and breakfast is available at the onsite restaurant for an additional cost, which was also good. I can't recall the name of the restaurant, but that same restaurant serves as a bar and restaurant in the evenings, along with their rooftop bar, which was also good. ||Valet parking is offered at an additional cost, and worth the cost given that there is no car parking within the hotel (parking is at an offsite location close by). There is limited street parking when you arrive at the hotel for check-in, and be mindful the local rangers are usually close by.||The QT is in a great location, close to lots of restaurants, cafes, bars, pubs, and boutiques and a short walk to Honey Suckle. We will stay there again on our next trip...
