Chris the manager has zero communication skills. I gave him a friendly review about the service and he told me pretty much to leave if I don't like it. I ordered food and drinks and the girl asked me politely what is my table number. I said that I haven't seen a number and Chris started losing his patience with me. He took me at the table and he said this is table 44. I looked at the table but I couldn't see any number because the number was printed on a block of timber facing down. I went back to pay and the girl handed me the catlery and plates. I had to do 2 runs and I mentioned to Chris politely that the management could look into an option to reduce the amount of things that the client have to carry. The cutlery case is a bit bulky to be more specific.I asked him first if I can share how I feel and he agreed. When I pointed the issue of knowing the table number and carrying lots of things he started getting upset. I asked him his name and this was the moment he lost control and started curring on implying that nobody cat touch him and he gave me the impression that it's his business. He started making fun of me offering me his business card. He told me twice despite I told him that I wanted to know his name only. Sarcastic and aggressive. These 2 words can describe his short fused personality. On the top of that, I asked for 1 beer and the girl tried to sell me a 6pack. I found it nice carrying for the business and trying to make sales. I told her that I need only 1 beer because I am not a big fun of alcohol anyway but she offered me nicely a sample and if I like it, I would buy the 6pack. She had good intentions and I bought the 6pack trying to reward her for her efforts to make sales. Chris come over and he told me that I can't drink my 1 beer on the table because it is take away and it is forbidden by law in "Australia" (in a racist manner). I said fair enough and I wasn't planning to have more than 1 beer anyway. Because of the previous incident, he started treating me like an alcoholic trying to drink the 6pack on the table. I told him that I have no issues about not drinking on the table but he kept pushing me (metaphorically) in a direction that I am trying to drink the whole 6pack. The conversation wasn't going anywhere and he made it very clear that I am not welcome in the business....

Really really average. Service left a lot to be desired. Food was average at best. General organisation seemed to be the blind leading the blind. On the whole we won't be returning, nor, I suspect, will a lot of other attendees (unknown to me). Of Note: we attended on a Wednesday, not a busy weekend. This location refuses to take bookings for parties under 4 people. As a result we attended and had to search for a table. Even on a Wednesday night we managed to fluke a table, which was two low lounges and an even lower coffee table style table - we had to eat our meals either on our laps or by bending over nearly in half. We were given menus at our table. Then after deciding on meals for two, commenced lining up for food. The line was exorbitantly long, and after approximately 10 minutes we reached the front of the line. Only upon reaching the counter, were we told that half the menu wasn't available. This was the first time we were told. One had to reach the counter and see the menu hidden on the countertop to see what was actually available (see attached photo). The staff member claimed they were short staffed and that was why a significant portion of the menu wasn't available - this shouldn't have stopped them putting a sign near the front door, or at least at the end of the line, so people could re-choose their order. After ordering, the food took nearly an hour to come out, though I appreciate the table service. The burger was nice (albeit a compromise for one of us), but the chips were barely warm. The buffalo wings tasted nice, but were only just warm. The service at the drinks bar didn't get much better. There were approximately 7 staff behind the bar, at most 1-2 were serving, and badly. Customers for the most part lined up, but it seemed staff didn't care about the lines and picked who they would serve. Service took an excessive amount of time because staff seemed to want to do anything but serve (for example 3 staff emptying one tray of glasses from the dishwasher while...

We booked Hemingway's 2 weeks before our trip to Port Douglas and got an instant confirmation and many reminders all the way up to and including the day of our booking. We arrived 10 minutes early found our table, decided what we were having and walked up to the counter to give our oder. Once completed we were told that there would be an hour wait for food and "were we happy with that"? No apology, no free drinks or nibbles just take it or leave it. This was at 7:00 PM the restaurant had been open for just an hour. We sat with our kids for an hour surrounded by 10 other full tables of people equally as bored and as glum as we were. On the other side of the restaurant there was a trivia night going on that was so loud that we had to raise our voices to talk to each other. No one came to check on us the whole time we were waiting and when the food finally came it was a massive disappointment. The kids had an average burger and chips, the wife fish and chips and I had the steak. The steak was overcooked and one third of it was pure gristle. Certainly not worth waiting an hour for. I complained to the manager who offered me a free drink for the terrible quality of the steak which I refused but they finally gave me my money back for that item. This place is not a 4.7 stars in anyone's book. The staff and management don't care about their customers or the quality of the experience they are getting. If I could give this place 0 stars I would but all I can do is warn others to avoid Hemmingway's there is so much better a...

If you're looking for an experience on the marina, many would recommend the brewery. However, keep your expectations in check. The location is fantastic, but the watermelon and lychee cocktail I had was underwhelming and flavourless. Ordering a colourful and fruity beverage, one would expect sweetness masking the alcohol it was imbued with. Not the case. The chips were small appearing as offcuts. Pieces were half the size of a pinky finger. The only upshot is at least they'll all be crispy (if that's what you're looking for in fried potatoes!). Certainly not fluffy on the inside. The vegan pizza was one redeeming part of this experience. While the toppings were light-on, the base and the garlic infusion was appealing. It certainly wasn't a standout pizza, but it was the best part of this experience. Prices are expensive, drinks are below par (we didn't partake in any beer flights so your mileage may vary), but the service was great. Many international visitors work in Port Douglas on working visas. Many Europeans and Brits with a passion for customer service improve the experience and it makes for a far more "worldly" experience. While hospitality wages are good in Australia, despite tipping not being customary, I'd tip these workers a little to show your appreciation. They'll be over the moon. In a country that doesn't tip, this gesture is likely to show Australian generosity in a meaningful and visible way. In terms of going for a drink, my experience at Barbados Bar was much better.

Unfortunately didn’t have a good experience dining here. It was difficult to find something GF even though their menu looks like it has options. It was either they were out of stock (at 2pm), or it just wasn’t available that day. Made it really hard to eat something substantial. Ordered the fish and chips and they were not good. The fish was incredibly oily, tasteless and clearly not fresh because the texture was off. No amount of lemon could save the fish, because the batter absorbed the lemon and you couldn’t taste it anyway. A huge shame for Port Douglas where they’re known for their beautiful Barramundi. The chips had little to no seasoning and didn’t save the meal. I couldn’t finish the meal and wasn’t happy with it. For $29, I expect a lot better than that. It seems like their picturesque seaside views and the large venue are their selling point, but they need to redirect their focus onto the quality of their food instead. I wouldn’t recommend, I wish we visited elsewhere.
