There’s cheap places so expectations will be low. In this case, prices were not especially cheap but the environment was. Oilly floor, almost slipped. chips were not well seasoned and stale. The grilled barramundi appeared more pan fried than grilled. Also appeared to “shrank” some how because it looked bigger in the display fridge. Potato scallop were too thickly battered, hence soggy and under seasoned. Worst quality crab stick that I’ve had in my life. Wasn’t fried very well either. Actually in general, their batter recipe is not the best and I think their oil for frying appeared not hot enough of watered down. Unable to produce crispy products. The shop also ran out of forks. They say they have knifes but ran out of forks. They had at least four staff on the floor, one could’ve bought some when the last packet was being refilled. Tables outside were dirty. Rubbish around the floor.

It’s cold, blowing a gale and pouring with rain. What better excuse do you need for a feed of fish and chips? From East Beach Fish and Chips at 146 Griffiths St, Port Fairy I received a no frills customer service experience when I placed my order for the usual fare at the fish and chip shop. The order didn’t take long to cook and I was away in no time. The chips I have to say were excellent, crispy on the outside soft in the middle. The ones you keep going back for even though you have had your fill. If I were to guess, I’d say they were ‘home made.’ The Flake on the other hand, when I cut into it seemed grey in colour. Although not altogether unpleasant, the potato cake and fish had different taste to them and were a little over done for my liking. I would certainly order the chips again.

We’ve eaten from here before and it was amazing, so we thought we’d try it again. Our meal cost us $44, we got a lamb souva, piece of fish, 3 steamed dim sims, 2 potato cakes, 2 scallops and $7 worth of chips. When we got home we realised there was no fish in our order, so I called back to let them know and also questioned the amount of chips we got (photo to come). We went back to collect and the people were very rude, they did however give us some additional chips which were appreciated! Overall the meal wasn’t great, the oil seemed old and the service left a lot to be desired. It shouldn’t be too much to ask to be greeted with a smile when you’re spending money at a local business.

If you're a fish and chip aficionado seeking a true taste of the seaside, look no further than East Beach Fish & Chips. This unassuming gem is a local favorite in Port Fairy, VICE

The star of the show is undoubtedly the fish. Battered to perfection, it arrives crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The chips, golden and fluffy, are the ideal accompaniment. The portions are generous, ensuring you'll leave satisfied.

While the fish and chips are the main attraction, East Beach Fish & Chips also offers a variety of other seafood delights, including grilled calamari, prawns to name a few.

We had lunch and dinner here, for lunch we had the Blue Grenadier and whiting with chips. Dinner we had hamburgers with the lot and the most delicious potato cakes I’ve had in a while.

Very quick service add to the overall dining experience. Whether you dine in or take away, East Beach Fish & Chips is a reliable choice for a delicious, affordable meal.

Thanks to the Big Fella who served us with a smile both times. Keep smiling because we will be back next visit to Port Fairy.

We last had fish and chips from this take away, in March, 2022, and the food was great. So this time when we again stayed at Port Fairy, for a few nights, we were looking forward to repeating the experience. Unfortunately, we were completely disappointed. Looks like the place may have changed hands. The staff didn't appear to be very happy in their job, but apart from that, the quality of the food had really gone down hill. We were there this last week Tuesday night from memory 21/2 We had two pieces of flake, 2 X potato cakes and minimum of chips. The flake was really thin at $9 each, and I mean thin, when you peeled back the batter. The potato cakes were "home made" at $2.00 each, one was fine, the other was a very small battered up slice of potato, not much bigger than a 50 cent piece, It was the sort of "potato cake" you would throw in with an order not charge any money for it. The chips were ok. I know things are tough out there, and the price is fine, but the quality was just very ordinary. Sorry about that, but next time we will...
