Ok. I turned up with an old girlfriend to have lunch today, and the experience was poor. On arrival there were drunkards sitting out the front greeting us. When we walked in I saw crumbed orange roughy (deep sea perch) as as special ($28)...my favorite fish, so I was excited. My friend is Irish and she decided on the beef and Guinness pie ($27). She went up to order the meals, and I went to order some drinks, but there was no one behind the bar for a good 4 minutes (which seemed like an eternity). My friend wanted a can of coke, but they only have post mix which was flat. My friend and I returned to our table awaiting our food, and when it came out, my crumbed fish was quite dark brown in colour, and I mentioned to the waiter that I thought that they really overcooked it, to no reply. It WAS really overcooked, and after I picked off the burnt crumbs it was stringy and dry with no seasoning and I'm sure that it came out of a frozen box. The pie looked ok, but it only had a tiny bread roll and a small amount of butter, but when she took the puff crust off it had virtually no Guinness gravy. It had some potato cubes, but no carrots or onions, and the meat was dry and tasteless except for an excess of black pepper (which she can't palate) I was hungry so I begrudgingly ate the fish, but my friend couldn't stomach the pie, sending it back to the kitchen and got a refund. Gee, when you pay good money for a meal, why can't the chefs get it right. So, so disappointed. We...

Stayed in Port for 2 nights on business and came here looking for a feed.
1st night, had the Abdo chicken burger, tasty, saucy and satisfying.
2nd night thought I would try the beef burger, a bit simpler. Patty was a bought one so was a bit bland.
Portion size for each meant you weren't hungry when you left.
The real difference was the service, both nights the staff were friendly in a Cheers mind of way. Welcome you in and farewelled you, just right. The young guy who checked in on people's experience is a thing often not seen.
Atmosphere was that it was in a holding pattern, during the week, for the bigger nights on Friday and Saturday, but it was clean, bright and functional.
Would recommend for families looking for a quick and friendly meal.
Great selection of standard and crafty beers on tap, and, of...
Read moreMy partner and I arrived at 12.30 to Finnian's on a Sunday and was greeted by an aesthetically pleasing man by the name of Ryan. Ryan was very inviting and considering I orignally came to Finnian's for just food I somehow managed to buy a guiness for myself and my partner purely on the fact Ryan was so warm and welcoming and greeted me with "come inside and let me get you a beer".
I did not know Ryan was the on duty manager but I just sensed through his level of care for his work that he was the man making sure this business was operating smoothly and making money. This is the same level of care I would expect from my managers in my workplace. I hope Ryan sees this and I hop someone higher up gives this man acknowledgement for the hard work he gives to Finnian's. Atmosphere was great, prices reasonable and I will be back here the next time I'm in port.
Cheers...
