Ok. I turned up with an old girlfriend to have lunch today, and the experience was poor. On arrival there were drunkards sitting out the front greeting us. When we walked in I saw crumbed orange roughy (deep sea perch) as as special ($28)...my favorite fish, so I was excited. My friend is Irish and she decided on the beef and Guinness pie ($27). She went up to order the meals, and I went to order some drinks, but there was no one behind the bar for a good 4 minutes (which seemed like an eternity). My friend wanted a can of coke, but they only have post mix which was flat. My friend and I returned to our table awaiting our food, and when it came out, my crumbed fish was quite dark brown in colour, and I mentioned to the waiter that I thought that they really overcooked it, to no reply. It WAS really overcooked, and after I picked off the burnt crumbs it was stringy and dry with no seasoning and I'm sure that it came out of a frozen box. The pie looked ok, but it only had a tiny bread roll and a small amount of butter, but when she took the puff crust off it had virtually no Guinness gravy. It had some potato cubes, but no carrots or onions, and the meat was dry and tasteless except for an excess of black pepper (which she can't palate) I was hungry so I begrudgingly ate the fish, but my friend couldn't stomach the pie, sending it back to the kitchen and got a refund. Gee, when you pay good money for a meal, why can't the chefs get it right. So, so disappointed. We...

Rounded up to 5 stars but would've been around 4.5 stars.

Stayed in Port for 2 nights on business and came here looking for a feed.

1st night, had the Abdo chicken burger, tasty, saucy and satisfying.

2nd night thought I would try the beef burger, a bit simpler. Patty was a bought one so was a bit bland.

Portion size for each meant you weren't hungry when you left.

The real difference was the service, both nights the staff were friendly in a Cheers mind of way. Welcome you in and farewelled you, just right. The young guy who checked in on people's experience is a thing often not seen.

Atmosphere was that it was in a holding pattern, during the week, for the bigger nights on Friday and Saturday, but it was clean, bright and functional.

Would recommend for families looking for a quick and friendly meal.

Great selection of standard and crafty beers on tap, and, of...

My partner and I arrived at 12.30 to Finnian's on a Sunday and was greeted by an aesthetically pleasing man by the name of Ryan. Ryan was very inviting and considering I orignally came to Finnian's for just food I somehow managed to buy a guiness for myself and my partner purely on the fact Ryan was so warm and welcoming and greeted me with "come inside and let me get you a beer".

I did not know Ryan was the on duty manager but I just sensed through his level of care for his work that he was the man making sure this business was operating smoothly and making money. This is the same level of care I would expect from my managers in my workplace. I hope Ryan sees this and I hop someone higher up gives this man acknowledgement for the hard work he gives to Finnian's. Atmosphere was great, prices reasonable and I will be back here the next time I'm in port.

Cheers...

I was lucky enough to have stumbled upon Finnian's tavern while searching for dinner this evening. I say lucky because the establishment is lovely. For my main, I had Finnian's famous chicken schnitzel with a serving of garlic and chive sauce on the side. I see why the schnitzel is renound! The schnitzel was fresh, the chicken breast had obviously been pounded earlier today. Two things detracting from the score: unfortunately, the chips were a bit too salty and the garlic sauce was a bit too runny. However, the latter could definitely be my own fault as I was absolutely famished so I left the sauce no time to sit and thicken. The ambiance was lovely. Would absolutely recommend if you're looking for a pub feed in the port city!

what happened?? we come here every time we visit Port. last time my husband had the rib eye, beautiful colouring and melt in your mouth. I was jealous! so tonight I ordered it. we asked it to be cooked rare and it came out blue! stone cold in the middle and no colour on the outside it looked sad. we took it back and it was slightly better on the inside but no rendering of the fat or charring. was also very grissly and alot was inedible. I had chips and veg with mine. barely any chips, the broccolini wasn't just cold it felt like it had been kept in the fridge after cooking and the squash was so raw. soooo disappointing as we loved coming here but I think tonight will be our last visit.

Nov 2021: I ordered the stock standard chicken schnitzel. It was such a busy night as well. They checked in on me to let me know if I was okay and the meal was coming. The staff were very courteous. The chicken was cooked to precision. My only regret was I didn't come during the week which is what we used to do when I went to this place in the early 2000's. I will always make a visit here each time I holiday in Port. Good people, good place. Jan 2022: I went a second time on a week day and had the burger for lunch. A good atmosphere. Apr 2022: I had the Monday night chicken parmigiana special it was so nice and lots on the plate. The staff were so hopeful. This place is a gem.
