Ok firstly confession time - I went to town here hence managing to spend $80 on just me - you can eat here for far less but I was only in Port Macquarie one more day and was determined to snag a table after reading the reviews.
Believe the hype - this place delivers genuine Japanese food with skill and integrity. They are only open for 3 hours a day and only seat around 20.
The amazing staff were great helping me navigate around those dishes I didn’t know - and it was gently suggested to me that I reduce a couple of orders when they realised it was just me dining!
The sashimi cuts were perfect in terms of the quality of fish and the way they were presented.
I backed this up with the Kingfish in a soy based broth that had complex layers and was cooked perfectly.
I then had the lunchbox (my compromise to the staff to reduce my order) as it had a selection of other parts of the menu - amazing.

Read moreThese are the types of places we need in Port! Real authentic Japanese cuisine. We have an absurd amount of sushi places in the area but this one stands above the rest in quality and authenticity. Whatever I order always tastes so fresh and clean, it's truly the best in Port for proper Japanese food. The venue itself isn't something people may desire but the food excels enough that you don't care where you're eating it, or just take it away! It goes above and beyond the usual sushi rolls and offers Japanese meals you won't find anywhere else in Port. People don't like the times they are open, but to me that just tells me that they care about only serving fresh food and not over ordering produce for the day, so once they run out, that's it!...
Read moreWonderful Japanese meals. The food is fresh and authentic, and service is happy, friendly and helpful. We shared the Special Lunchbox ("Chicken Teriyaki,Spring Roll, Sui Mai' Chicken Kara-Age, Panko Prawns, Egg Omelette, Steamed Vegetables, Rice & Miso Soup") and Katsu Chicken Curry. These delicious meals at Sushiko were comparable to the ones that we had when visiting Japan. Will definitely be back to Sushiko to try other options on the menu. Highly recommend...
