Thought we would try Suzu last night and ordered on Menulog. Food was nice, but before you order make sure you have two things available. (1) A healthy bank balance and (2) a magnifying glass to be able to find your food.
We ordered 2x entrees; 2x mains; 1x steamed rice & 1x omlette. Cost $ 110. Now while that is a bit on the high side compared to other Japanese restuartants in Port Macquarie (we spent $70 at another a fortnight ago & had more food then we could eat) what shocked us was how little food was in each dish - the exception being the Pork Gyoza which did indeed include 4 pieces.
The Pork Belly Kakuni ($ 18.50) included 2 slices of pork belly & some garnish. The mains of Chicken Katsu ($32.50) & Teriyaki Beef ($34.80) would barely feed a toddler, yet alone an adult. Both mains had more garnish that actual dish. The egg omelette simply made us laugh - it filled less than 1/5th of the container it was in & I estimate you could get 3 omelettes per egg used. As for the steamed rice, well it wasn't enough to go with one of the mains.
Thankfully, I was able to whip up some fried rice to complete the meal.
So in short, we spent $ 110 on food that would have cost us around $40-50 at the other Japanese restuarant that is about 100m away.
Yes, the food was nice (but no better than the other option), but the price was obscene for what you get. Maybe it is different if you eat in-house, but we were left feeling that we had been totally ripped off by this meal. First time we have ordered from here, and it will...
Read moreThe quality of the food deserves 4 stars, unfortunately something unacceptable happened which I need to share to warn other people with food allergies. After receiving my glutenfree chicken teriyaki I saw it was actually battered. Something I did not expect as it was not mentioned on the menu. I then asked the lady owner if there were eggs used to batter the chicken, as I have an egg yolk allergy. She answered they use patato starch. I replied that I already knew it was glutenfree but wanted to know if egg was used. Again, a firm and very unfriendly answer that NO EGG was used in this dish. After many years of living with food allergies you just feel when something is not right, so I asked a waitress if she could please check with the chef if any egg was used to batter the chicken. She came straight back to warn me, YES, egg was used to batter the chicken. The waitress was lovely and very worried, as she has food allergies herself. If I would have eaten that dish, I would have been sick and in pain for days. A restaurant owner who doesn't care about the health of their customers should never be in hospitality...
Read moreDrove 5 hours from Sydney to Port Macquarie and stopped at this place for dinner around 8 PM. They close at 8:30, so we understood it was getting late. We were told—rather bluntly—that they weren’t taking any more dine-in orders. Fair enough, we decided to order takeaway instead.
But here’s the kicker: 10 minutes later, a group of (white) locals walked in and asked for a table for three. The same staff member who turned us away suddenly became all smiles—escorted them outside, gave them a table, and took their order like it was no problem. Honestly, it felt like a slap in the face.
Was it racism? Favouritism? Who knows. But it was obvious we were treated differently—and unfairly. It completely ruined what should have been a nice end to a long day.
On top of that, nearly everyone walking out of the place was complaining about how slow the service was. Clearly, poor management all around.
0/5 Not coming back. Not recommending it. Absolutely...
