Big O Milk Bar — Restaurant in Portland

We have eaten here with good take-away over many yrs, always had a special item We bought all the time, a special fried rice , loaded with chicken and vegies! Great small meal it fed two of us for nice filling lunch !

Cafe was recently taken over by Kate, a young lass with many yrs experience in other local cafes , known her for many yrs at other food places;

Sadly our favourite dish was discontinued in the first week of new ownership, size of packs were reduced for other meals and cost of those food packs rose also!

We tried again few weeks ago with a another packaged meat and veg pack , overpriced for its size compared to other cafes, and maybe she should check baymarie temp, as we had to reheat at home , we only live 5 mins away , and quality was only average! Not really impressed , maybe more supervision is required of staff and quality check at kitchen before into food sections retail?

Service by staff good, fairly prompt and efficient, it would appear staff need more room to move behind counter , and move cash register to near front door with a specific person on it, would save room and time , staff squeezing by each other !!!

The shop has run for many many yrs in portland , had outstanding reputation for food quality at lunch times , speed of service and variety , successfull formula that worked! “If it ain’t broke, don’t try to improve or fix it”, is an old axiom that applies in hospitality...

This place is noticed a few times when we first moved to the area. Have now been in a few times and omg their food is amazing. First the pies, seriously the best pies I’ve ever come across in Australia. I’ve travelled all around and never found anything as delicious as these. Tender shreddable meat with a delicious gravy. Im addicted now. There flake is always perfect, now that’s coming from my very fussy retired chef dad. Their home made sweets are absolutely delicious every time. Their daily specials you can pre order the night before are so convenient and again delicious. The customer service is friendly and polite every time. Loving that even after half a dozen visits they already remember me. It’s always busy with so many people but is served quickly. Love that they have other sugar free drinks besides coke.

I've been going to big O for years. Always been great food an service. The young lady who has bought the place, haz taken the food, choice, and quality to the next level. Just beautiful.
