We come down to Portland three or four times a year and we like to try a few meals over various times and locations to see if there’s any consistency with the meals. We have visited The Gordon, The Macs, The Royal and The Richmond Henty We don’t mind paying good money for good food and on all occasions I’ve attended this establishment the food is always of a very high standard. The location is great with lots of parking spaces out the front because it’s a few hundred meters away from main drag. We were served by Kevina whose hospitality and general chit chat was honest and refreshing. We had the chicken parmigiana with salad and chips, chicken schnitzel with vegetables with Diane sauce and seafood risotto. Waited no more than 15 minutes and we could tell the difference between these meals and that of the competitors. We didn’t tell Kevina that Rick, one of our travel companions is a qualified chef and we were impressed with the whole package, quality food presented correctly, friendly service, nice atmosphere and very reasonably priced. I never take photos of food but on this occasion I did, only send it to my brother who was also visiting Portland and had the misfortune of eaten a parmigiana at The Gordon the day before. This will now be our ‘go to’ place every time we visit Portland. I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t have at least one negative comment. You might want to change the shade sails out the front, they look a bit ratty.

Checkin was quick and friendly reception staff very helpful. The better rooms with the view area up an outdoor staircase from open free.car park. Our room was a standard queen pretty tired needs updating but very clean. Bed was comfortable. View was great beautiful sunrises over the harbour. The shower ran hot and cold. Room was a bit overpriced compared with similar accommodation weekday rates. We have been staying at Port Fairy just up the road more often now as the accommodation choices and prices are better. Pool was locked up on a rare hot day Note: we stayed again here this time in room 33 king room with spa. Same outlook but a lot nicer room. Very comfortable bed updated spa, sofa and dining for two. Room service dinner was wonderful Edwards Waterfront Cafe see seperate review.. also this was a free night midweek on Choice Hotels points.well worth being a member as it is free to join.

The beds were nice and soft and clean, the bathroom could do with a freshen up. The soap shelf was broken off in the shower and not replaced. The test and tags on the hair dryer was 12 years out of date. The breakfast omelette was very nice but the toast was like warm hard bread.

When things are set to be done, there no!! Sorry guys, you’re up there, but you’re declining at a rate.||The 1 million dollar upgrade that was supposed to be finished last year, hasn’t even started! In my opinion only, if you advertise such a thing and don’t deliver, you will get hammered by the people who may have an interest in your business.||For me, I’ve been staying at your hotel coming close to 16 years. Understandable you’ve had staff change but make no apologies , they all have been first class.||The other thing I have an issue is that like most places is the pricing , your meals in the front restaurant you really need to review your pricing cause it’s a little bit out there. For example, why would someone pay $10.00 for a glass of wine when you can go into Dan Murphys and get close to 2 bottles for the same price!!’||The new owners have scrapped your rewards scheme from Choice Privileges. Great service for people like me and others who would like to save their points and use them elsewhere. Probably not a good idea as in the same town you have other hotels that have kept the scheme going and well done to them cause they would’ve known that this has happened.||In finishing, this hotel is good and it may seem I’ve put a damper on it, but it just needs a little touch up to get back to its first class standard it was! Visit by all means and then make...

Well now I’m not sure. New owners, most likely more interested in their back pockets than their customers who pay their bills!!!||In writing this the staff will know who I am and should reply back to the owners for their viewing. Firstly the new one million dollar renovation that was supposed to be completed last year, it’s still hasn’t even started, so please if you can’t perform don’t advertise on something that’s not!!||The staff are so lovely and I know it’s not their fault, but for the owners they have no loyalty to their customers. For example, new menu in the front and only restaurant is on for takers, but if you order a sauce for your steak it’s an extra $2.00 charge even though it’s not mentioned on the menu!! And I would say it’s probably covered on other meals as well!! All alcohol and meal prices are well above what is out there. One glass of wine I had..$14.00 but if you went to Dan Murphys you could buy almost 3 750ml bottles for the same price!!!||Rooms are good and clean. I’ve been coming here for a good part of 16 years, but I’m starting to think is there time to start looking elsewhere!!! Good luck with your choice of...
