A great place to check out when in Portland. Very informative museum on the history of the Port as well as it's historic whaling industry. The staff member behind the desk provided great education and also helped us out with some recommended places of interest around the area. Dogs welcome too; which was a bonus for us.

A great place to learn the history of Portland and the whaling era of yester year... With shark info and the skeleton of a juvenile whale that washed up on shore years before... Bought souvenirs also...located near the piers and the bay it was a great place!

Free entry so everyone should have a look. Exhibition is not very big but very well presented. A very awesome Whale skeleton and also 1:1 boat exhibits. Has a nice collection of maritime items and whale / dolphin skeletons. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit.

Interesting little display about Portland's marine history! You can have a look at a whale skeleton and even sit inside it on a bench for some photos, and after you're done, there's a good café to eat at and enjoy the seaside view.

FYI the display is small, but to me it was interesting. If you don't care about boating and/or history, the $7 entry price may not be worth it, but it's a good way to spend 30 or so minutes before or after lunch!

Friendly staff can also provide info on destinations to visit while in Portland and also have a nice gift shop!

Very informative. I knew very little of Australia's Whaling and Seal industries and knew "NOTHING" about Portland. This place is a real "GEM" and great place if you prefer cooler and more moderate temperatures during SCORCHING Aussie SUMMERS. VERY HAPPY TO HAVE HOLIDAYED HERE, CARAVANING OVER XMAS. NOT CRAZY BUSY EITHER AND NUNSBEACH IS FANTASTIC! SO PORTLAND ITSELF GETS 5 STARS FROM ME. The museum is only small - but inexpensive and...
