We had a shocking experience with the owner of this establishment last night. My husband and 2 sons (11 and 6 years) were in the pub watching the end of the Matilda’s World Cup game. It was a very exciting match and the bar was full and rocking, with every penalty kick being greeted by loud cheers and people banging on tables, chairs, walls etc. My husband (who doesn’t drink so was completely sober) and kids were joining in on this fun. Then, from out of nowhere, a lady (who appeared to be drunk) marched over to my 6 year old, got down right into his face and told him to stop kicking the cabinet he was leaning against. She then manhandled him aggressively and had further words to say at him. My husband, who was literally right there, suggested that as he was a 6 year old a better approach would have been to have a quiet word to him who would have corrected this behaviour. The lady then proceeded to criticise my husband’s parenting skills. She then returned to her seat at the bar and gave my husband the finger! This whole exchange left my husband, children and other patrons completely bewildered. To target a 6 year old in that moment in a bar full of drunk adults who were behaving in a much more ruckus manner was unbelievable! So many patrons approached my husband after this incident to apologise for the woman’s behaviour however she continued with it, canvassing the room telling her side of the story trying to garner support, which wasn’t forthcoming. On the way out after the game multiple people actually stopped my husband to tell him just how well behaved our boys were. In short, the owner of this venue was on a power trip and targeted the most vulnerable, a 6 year old, whilst drunk in her own...

I had to give 1 star as you can't give any lower, otherwise I would have given 0. My comments relate to our food experience only. My elderly parents traveled to Townsville to take me out for my birthday. I suggested we go to the Australian Hotel as I hadn't been in a couple of years. Both my father and I ordered the beer battered mackerel with chips & salad. Now to advise this was the worst meal I have ever tasted would be an extreme understatement. [My father who never complains also agrees with my comments] I have never written complaints before but was compelled to do so here. I knew something was wrong as soon as I saw the dish. There were 2 pieces of fish where a very pale yellow. The fish seemed to be taken straight out of the fridge which was in there from at least the previous night. The fish was cold and seriously we had to use force to even cut the thing as it is was that rubbery. My father & I ate half a piece each & could not bear the taste. Seriously I was disgusted and shocked with the food and I am the type of person who can eat anything anywhere. I won't even bother complaining about the quality of chips & salad. By the way, my mother ordered the chicken with some type of creamy mustard sauce and said is was not very good, chicken was dry and not much taste to the sauce and the steamed veges were plain. Again I cannot stress how disgusted I was with this meal and would recommend you go somewhere else. Bar & table...

After spending over $200 (possibly more as there was 6 of us) in the bar we moved to the bottle shop attached to purchase some takeaways. As they could not supply us with a cold case of beer we were after, we started to swap 2 of the 4 six packs for cold ones seeing that there was 2 six packs in the fridge and assuming they had more in the pub. We were told that we could only swap one and when i asked why this was the case, i was told that these were the rules. I again questioned the attendant (Rob) why we could not swap them only to be then told again these were the rules and that he could not make an exception. I questioned if this was good customer service and he questioned my methods. I admit i questioned numerous times as i did not see the issue seeing as though we had spent well in excess of $400 - $500 at the venue.

Needless to say, there are 6 people who wont attend the venue in any capacity again and don't go there for a cold...

We stopped in on a Tuesday night, for their 400g rump special, as advertised for $15.00. Included coleslaw and an Idaho potato on the side. Sauce is not included In the deal, and is an additional $2.00 per person. Overall our meals were good. The rumps did not come out as a medium and medium rare as requested, but due to the sheer number of people that night, we decided to est them anyway. Our friend got the double brisket meal, and can I tell you, was beyond disappointed. The meat was tough and dry. Tasted like reheated jerkey, and not in a good way. He ate the sides, and tried to share the meat component. We didn't finish it. When the waiter came to collect the plates from the table, I let them know how disappointed we were with the brisket. There was no real action as the young man was a bit taken back by it. Overall, a great place for friends. I recommend the 400g rump on their Tuesday night specials.

The menu had great variety and priced very well. We both ordered bugers and when they came to the table they looked impressive. But that's where it ended. The filling was huge but so was the base of the bun. You couldn't take a bite out of it and that was after taking half of the filling out. Then the base of the bun was so dense it had a stale feel to it. We both ended up getting forks and knives to eat it. Mine ended up being fish salad and the other pulled brisket and slaw. The pulled brisket was amazing though.
