Visited for a business lunch on a Friday (May 24th). I wish I could tell you how the food was, but after 40 minutes and nearly no service we couldn't even order any!
We were seated around 12:30 by a staff member at the bar and told somebody would bring us some water and menus soon. There were other patrons waiting on food and drinks, and some appeared to even have sucessfully ordered food. After about 15 minutes of seemingly being ignored by two waitresses who were stood nearby we went and found some menus of our own behind the server's station. We then waited another 10 minutes but couldn't find any staff members other than the very busy bar staff member.
After approaching the bar and waiting several minutes for service at the empty bar, one very lovely staff member attempted to serve us and take our food and drink order. However, after she led us around the entire restaurant to each computer she couldn't find a computer which was operational. She then went and found the restaurant manager and dissappeared for a period to try and solve the problem.
When the staff member returned she was most apologetic but at no point had did anybody offered to simply take our order on paper, asked us to return to our seat or come and tend to us. Instead she we were left standing in the middle of the restaurant for about 8 minutes while the restaurant manager and staff member kept looking back at us occasionally.
We thanked the waitress for her attempts to let us order, but we would have to go elsewhere. We left approximately 40 minutes after we arrived having never been able to order any food or drinks or being approached by a single staff member other than one we found at the bar.
I have never experienced a complete lack of service of this degree anywhere....
Read moreThe restaurant is situated in the Mercure Hotel, right next to the swimming pool. It offers indoor and outdoor seating options and a bar serving both areas. The staff at the restaurant are highly professional and friendly, ensuring a pleasant dining experience.
It is worth noting that although the outdoor seating area is lovely, it can be hot and attract flies. However, the addition of ceiling fans would be a significant improvement to make it the perfect spot.
Regarding food, as an Accor Plus member, we tried the full breakfast and two dinners here. The breakfast was delicious, offering a wide range of hot options and a great selection of pastries. Barista coffee is available with extra charges.
As for dinner, the fish and chips and the Barramundi were well cooked. However, the seafood tower may not be everyone's cup of tea, as the small oysters, rubbery baby octopus, and very salty smoked salmon (served on top of a layer of rock salts) may not suit everyone's taste. The sauces can do with some improvements as well.
Overall, it is worth it if you are an Accor Plus member and a guest at the hotel. Note lunch specials can be more expensive than if you use your...
Read moreEdit: Still a great spot to dine, wine and relax. The steaks are great, if a little premium priced, but there are many affordable options ranging from pizza or pasta to curry or a schnitty. I can't fault the staff, they are fabulous. I hear their buffet breakfast is good also. Recommended.
One of the most understated restaurants in Townsville. Beautiful setting by a lagoon-style pool, it is worth a try just for something different. The location may not be the best (8 minutes out of the cbd) but the food is incredible and the service perfect. Parents can chill by the bar while kids swim in the massive pool, you don't need to be staying here to use the facilities, providing you are dining here....
