Dinner has a great array of options, we had the masaman beef and Penang curry and both were absolutely delicious! Service is consistently excellent, as is the beachfront location.
It must be said however this is probably the most expensive Thai restaurant I've ever eaten at, a pad Thai is $28 for example, so keep this in mind should you choose to dine in. Many Palm Cove restaurants are 10-20% overpriced due to the location so it's not just Choc Dee at fault however the pricing here is really past the limit of what one could claim as value. I have no doubt if there were more circa $20 dinner options I would have returned again for dinner.
Offsetting the above however are very cheap ($10-15) lunch takeaway options on the weekend which, if you around, are absolutely worth a look and alcohol is very reasonably priced at all times, in fact I was pleasantly surprised to see the Cooper's Vintage Ale for $7.50!
All in all, great restaurant somewhat let down by it's dinner pricing.
Edit: To the owner's response, sorry mate 3 stars it is. Every other Thai restaurant in Australia, including dozens in Sydney where their shop rent is I guarantee way higher than yours is, can knock out say a Pad Thai for ~$20, why do you think your ask of $28.5 is reasonable? It's only reasonable in Palm...
Read moreThis place has a very relaxing and classy feel to it. The service is good but could be better by being faster. We had to return a couple of times before I wrote this review in order to make sure our experience was consistent. The heat rating of their dishes are totally off the grid. It seems that they only use very hot chillies. Very mild has no chillies at all, which is bland and tasteless. When you order mild they use a small amount of the very hot chillies. When you order medium, the use lots more and so forth. The problem with this is that the mild dishes are hot and unpleasant every second mouthful. Possibly if they used sweet chilli in milder dishes and allocate chillies to certain dishes according to their heat rating they would end up with more flavoursome food. Having said all that, the prawns were fresh and wonderfully cooked, along with the veggies. We had the sticky black rice for dessert which was excellent. Beware, the dishes are also very pricey for what you get. In a nut shell, if you have sensitive taste buds and like to be tantalised by the combination of the many wonderful Thai spices including chilli, regretfully this place is...
Read moreHave dined here before and not expected issue, until today. In the past would compare to one of the best Thai and Authentic experiences. Not so this time. Our table was basil Thai on beef, green curry on chicken, and pad see ew. Flavour was missing over all three. Over use of carrot as a filler (I think carrot is not that authentic for Thai). Was going to take left overs home expecting wow. Left it all behind and hardly ate any. The green curry was a good medium, was water and chilli with all the punch at the top of the tongue not over it and no follow up warming. Could not taste the salt, ginger, or garlic at all. There was more red curry flakes than green, very pale green. The Basil for a mild had no chilli and just tasted like basil and nothing else, no complexity or wow. The pad see ew, tasted the part to a point lacking salt and the strength was just not there. Felt like a waste and since I know they have been so great in the past…. A bit...
