We were visiting our son from New Zealand to the Cairns area for the first time, and decided to have lunch at the Surf Club, great choice.
We had lunch there yesterday, the meals were great.
I find it difficult to give 5 stars, which indicates that it cannot be improved, however the meals we received were 4.5 stars.
Based on what we received yesterday, I would definitely recommend the calimari.
This was superb, excellently presented, the texture was perfect, and the papaya salad was not overbearing, just the right balance with the meal.
I would have loved a little more calimari, only because I foolishly shared some with my son, big mistake.
My wife had the pulled pork filled pita bread with salad and chips.
The chips had to be the best supplied by any top class restarant, they were lovely and chispy, and no oil residue, just perfect. The chips could not be faulted in any way and the serving size was adequate.
The Barramundi was good, well cooked, but would not be my choice of fish.
The service was pretty slow, could do with a bit of a smarten up, although the club was fairly busy when we were there.
Plenty of seating available, and they had zero alcohol Heineken available, which was good to see.
We will definitely be returning to the club.
A great asset...
Read moreWe attended the Melbourne Cup luncheon upstairs. The main course was well prepared, well presented and tasted great. Salmon steaks on mash or pork were served alternatively. Unfortunately the staff seemed disorganised from the start. During the main course service 2 guests at our table were left without meals until we chased up the staff. Then once everyone else in the room were served they got their meals. Of course the rest of the table had finished their meals by then. Deserts were very ordinary. They reminded us of a commercial purchase. Nothing interesting, different or remotely on site kitchen prepared. A few squares of a passionfruit slice, squares of a tiramasu slice and squares of a chocolate cake on a serving plate. Biggest surprise no tea or coffee included in the price. The battle to have the big televisions connected for the race meant we didn't get to see anything of the Flemington atmosphere or hear the pre-race news. The connection crashed so many times we moved downstairs to watch the race rather than risk missing it. Why had this all not been setup & tested the night before? Overall it seemed like a last minute after thought, not a planned function and our whole table were...
Read moreWe love The Surf Club in Palm Cove. Staff are always friendly and accommodating. The views over the beach and Coral Sea are outstanding. The meals are affordable and delicious. They are open for lunch, dinner and even late meals. (Plus breakfast on Sundays). The daily $17.50 specials are a huge hit. Try the Crispy Chicken Ribs with Sweet Potato shards and mango jam. Yuuuummmy, Scrummy!!! Or my partners favourite, the Chilli BBQ Chicken Parmigiana with sides of your choice. You are truly spoilt for choice here, from salads, seafood, burgers, pizzas, steaks and lots more. The bar is stocked with a huge variety of tap beer plus wine, cocktails and soft drinks. They make my favourite cocktail to perfection...toblerone (woohoo). They also have pokies and pool tables. The upstairs areas are available for hire and very adaptable for any occasion from birthdays to weddings with full catering facilities, etc., and have balconies overlooking the Coral Sea at the front and rainforest at the rear. Yep, I reckon The Surf Club Palm Cove is an...
