We came to this restaurant based on a recommendation from a friend who lived in Cairns a few years ago. I can only assume this restaurant has gone precipitously downhill since then. The restaurant was not busy, but it still took over a half hour to take our order. Once our order was in our food did arrive at our table quickly which would ordinarily be a good thing, but not in this case. My wife ordered spanakopita, and I ordered the Lamb yiros which, according to the menu, is their specialty. The spanakopita was terrible. We literally could not find spinach in the spanakopita. The pastry was what you would expect a ten year old child to make if they just guessed the recipe for spanakopita pastry, burned it, and then left it sitting out for three days in a futile attempt to reverse the burning process. The yiros weren’t much better. The flavor of the yiros was fine, but the quality of the lamb was not. There were several bits of gristle in the pile. We finished eating our meal at 7:34pm. Our intention was to order a couple of cocktails and some baklava, but our waiter never returned to our table to see if we needed anything else. She made several passes in our general area but seemed to deliberately avoid making eye contact with us. After forty minutes of seeing how far she was willing to neglect us we grew bored of her game and managed to get the attention of another employee who brought us our check and then returned to take our payment. A thousand poets working for a thousand years could not find the words to convey how dissatisfied with this experience we were. Judging by the negative reviews we found after the fact this was not an isolated case. If you find yourself in Cairns and you want some good Greek food you would be better served driving to Hungry Jacks in Townsville to satisfy your Mediterranean craving than take a chance here. The only thing extraordinary about it is this was literally the worst Greek food I have ever had in my life so that...
Read moreWARNING please read before dining here, because I certainly wish I did before entering this establishment. This place is a literal example of Gordon Ramsey’s Kitchen Nightmare- the owner is so ignorant and oblivious to any problems that they get angry and hostile when confronted with them. I have no doubt, as with the other reviews on here, that he will become abusive and confrontational about this review which is reflective of how he operates the restaurant too (we overheard him openly complaining about a customer who had asked for a slight alteration to a dish).
We sat down and ordered the set menu and a couple of beers. The set menu consisted of numerous courses which you would expect to flow on to your table but no. Three small dishes arrived after 20 minutes all together - calamari (which was the only good food supplied), bread and dips (which were literally a Cole’s dip in a small bowl) and Saganaki cheese. We then had to wait an HOUR for the next part of the menu to arrive. When the food finally arrived we asked what dish was which and the waitress literally said she did not know what she had given us. She did not go and check and dumped another plate on our table without telling us what it was.
In between waiting, I ordered a Sauvignon Blanc to be asked ‘is that the white one’?. It turns out when we went to pay that I was given a Pinot G and, if I am honest, it was definitely goon.
All tables around us were looking around wondering where their food was and you could heard peoples disapproval from all tables around.
This is by far and away the worst restaurant experience I have ever had and I only hope that others read this before attending.
I cannot wait to be called a moron or an idiot by the owner in response to this review but hopefully it will save you from...
Read moreI don't usually write reviews but it was a terrible dining experience, we'll never return, and I wish I'd known before booking my birthday dinner there...every part of the process took forever, the waitstaff kept ignoring us -- at one point I ended up waving like a crazy person after multiple subtle attempts for attention, and the waiter (?manager?) finally made eye contact with me and then walked in the opposite direction anyway (nothing in his hands/not in the middle of anything). 2 of our party ordered the set menu and because things were brought out sporadically, it was some time through the meal before we realised they'd actually forgotten 3 of the 9 mini-taster-meal plates in the set menu -- and after prompting them, it took so long to bring them out that half the party had left, and we just put them in takeaway containers rather than stay. We then had to prompt again for the baklava that we'd already asked for, and waited another 10-15min for the tiniest baklava I've ever seen (NOT worth the wait) and they charged us full price with no consideration of what they knew was a mess of a meal. It was also deafeningly noisy and hard to hear each other. The only thing I enjoyed were the mojitos and the chicken yiros. The calamari weren't fully cooked and we couldn't eat. Even the Greek salad -- my favourite salad in the world despite it's simplicity, I fell in love with it during my travels and I make it all the time -- was drizzled with an awful, cheap, odd-tasting olive oil that ruined it. Deeply disappointed as I love Greek food, and my guests were all...
