Last night my partner and I were celebrating our anniversary and decided to pick flynns italian for dinner due to the beautiful view and we wanted to have the 4 course meal. I have been to flynns italian before and was excited to show my partner a great time.
Now, upon arriving, we were greeted and told happy anniversary we then were sat in the very far corner of the front of the restaurant which was warm and had no airflow.
We were greeted by our server, who didn't introduce himself, we ordered 2 glasses of procescco, which took 10 minutes to get to us.
We ordered the 4 course meal each and were excited to share the experience.
We got the first set of pairing wines way before the first course even came out to use.
By the time we received our first course, it was 40 minutes we had been waiting and our wine was gone.
We promptly finish the course and then proceeded to wait another hour for our second course (keep in mine the restaurant only had 10-12 tables seated) we recieved our wines and ate our meals, when the server cleared our table we ordered two more glasses of prosecco as the wait time in between everything was leaving us a tad annoyed.
Now, by this stage, we had been in the restaurant for over an hour and a half and only had 2 out of 4 meals, and most of the customers in the venue had left.
It was only us and one other table in the venue by this time, and we still did not receive our mains. We ordered a bottle of procecco by this point and were becoming a bit annoyed.
When the mains finally came out the time we had been in the venue reached 2 hours most of the staff had gone home and they were packing down around us we were the only customers in the venue by this point We did not receive the pairing wine for our third course and the fish for my main was undercooked and i couldnt not finish it.
By this point my partner was beyond pissed off we waited close to 2.5hrs for 3 out of 4 meals and received poor service and at no stage did a waiter or manager explain what was happening and why the food was taking so long. Our reservation was at 7:30 pm we didn't leave the venue until 9:45 pm.
We told the waiter that our deserts would be takeaway as it was getting close to 10, in all honesty absolutely ridiculous.
Apart from one waitress, the service was horrible. The food was medicore compared to what I've experienced in this venue previously. The wait time for 4 small portions is far beyond a joke.
Our bill came to $293. I was reluctant to pay that as the food was mideocore, not receiving pairing wines for 2 courses, and service was horrible it wasnt worth it.
Im beyond disappointed and dissatisfied. It was our anniversary. we tried to make the most of it, but in all honesty, it completely...
Read moreMy partner and I recently treated ourselves to the Tavolo Per Due four-course set menu with matching wines at Flynn’s Italian by Crystalbrook... and what a night!
From the first sip of Lambrusco, I was instantly transported back to my teenage years sneaking a swig from Mum’s cask in the fridge (though, I assure you, Flynn’s version was far more refined and far less regret-inducing). Paired with the ‘nduja bruschetta, it set a lively, nostalgic tone for the evening — a perfect opening act.
The fiori di zucca ripieni (zucchini flowers) were a standout! Crisp, delicate, and filled with the kind of ricotta mixture that makes you temporarily forget your table manners. The Bloody Mary salsa added a little zing and saltiness that elevated the whole thing from good to “please don’t ever take this off the menu.”
The gnocchi in porcini cream was everything you want from a comfort dish... pillowy, rich, and unapologetically decadent. The casarecce con salsiccia was pleasant enough, though a touch on the shy side when it came to seasoning, rescued, however by its Montepulciano pairing - a rich nod to the restaurant’s Italian roots.
If I’m being honest, the mains were a touch uneven. The beef medallion arrived a bit past its medium-rare prime, and the reef fish felt like it hadn’t quite decided what story it wanted to tell. But these minor missteps were more than redeemed by the real star of the night: our waiter, Antonio.
Antonio was the beating heart of the experience - passionate, warm, and absolutely in his element. The twinkle of pride and genuine excitement each time he introduced a flavour from his hometown of Abruzzo brought such depth and authenticity to the evening that it felt like we were being hosted in his family’s dining room. His enthusiasm was utterly infectious and his timing was impeccable - the kind of service you can’t fake and rarely find.
Dessert was a sweet triumph! The semifreddo al caffè e cioccolato was a little masterpiece of texture and flavour My partner adored the Yalumba tawny that came with it; I, on the other hand, can safely confirm that my appreciation for dessert wine remains at zero stars. The mousse? A masterpiece.
All in all, Flynn’s delivers an experience that’s more than just dinner... it’s personality, passion, and plenty of Italian charm. Go for the food, stay for the service, and raise your glass (tawny or otherwise) to Antonio... the true ambassador of...
Read moreWe went to dinner with my husband and for a restaurant in Crystal Brook we didn't feel the good warm service that there is in other places such as Roccos, maybe maybe they didn't have enough staff, to start we ordered a burrata which was delicious, then for main courses we ordered some veal gnocchi which were almost over salted but they were edible so we didn't see a problem, my husband ordered shrimp linguine and on the contrary they were unsalted to which we kept looking for a waiter to ask for the salt but there was never one near our table so he ate them like that before they got cold the flavor was delicious, we ordered two cocktails that were good and finally we ordered two desserts a tiramisu and some ricotta cannolis, the truth is these weren't delicious at all, the tiramisu was more edible since the cannoli the dough was very hard and tasted like storage, we let the waitress know to which she replied that they had been made in the morning, to be honest a waiter is never attentive to How often does the cook make the preparations so we realized that he was lying to us, we are chefs and it is easy to notice when something is not fresh. So well a place that we will not return to not only for the food but for the service, in addition to that we saw that the table next to us was brought the same pasta and they brought parmesan and not to us, I don't know if we should have asked for it additionally but we did not see it on the menu and they did not offer it to us either.definitely the worst dessert I...
