Having purged my bowls and bladder I sit alone in the smoking area in the darkest corner away from the harsh unatmospheric lighting. 5300 words, some ramblings and not entirely formed thoughts rattling around in my brain. A group are playing their own music and it isn't bad thoroughfare, although once again that struggle to relax is obvious. Words forever pouring from within, an opened and stuck valve. Two ** pictures from two different individuals made me happy. And then I hear the conversation from the table up from me. The boys were going to return to a hostel and cause a ruckus and just have fun. At the expense of others.
I retreat to the dining room to order a wagyu just before end of food service. I chose to sit at the incorrect table. Monstrous humans of gargantuan size made my table quake as they thundered past. A bitter man sat at a family table spits his negative opinion at his children. Everything is a disappointment to him. The table laughs when reminiscing. I do not hear him laugh. A baby takes up the confused and neglected infantile cry in the distance as I chew my acceptable steak. It is slightly more charred on the outside than a medium rare should be and the fries take on the same tinge of slightly overdone. The coleslaw is drier than I'd like and the aoli intensely garlicy. And yet more people thunder past my table in droves leaving, unaware that like the Tyrannosaurus in jurassic Park I can see every footstep not only in my drink but by the shaking of my table. Thirst slaked, belly overfull. Time to finish my 4th rum and depart for the hostel. The taste of garlic is strong in my mouth. It makes me feel ever so...
Read moreThe hospitality from the top down was warm and so genuine, and just like you have read in the other reviews. So much so that I was reluctant to give the food the one star it deserved. First I asked for the child meal to come at the same time, so we could eat as a family. The opposite happened.
Child meal size was more for a toddler...too small for a hungry 10 year old. Kids meal size varies so much that this must be impossible to get it right. So this is an observation not a complaint.
Sticky beef ribs was the biggest let down. Curly chips were soggy and antique. On both the child and adult meals the chips were visibly distressed. Coleslaw was dry, but more of that excessively garlic dressing would have been offensive.
Similarly it was the non sticky rib sauce that delivered the greatest disappointment. The sauce wasn't balanced, far too acidic and thin. Did they forget the honey and add exrea vinegar in lieu? Nor was the sauce reduced enough to be able to claim it was a sticky rib sauce. A chef who doesn't even taste his sauce and allows curly fries that just look as bad as they taste to be served, is a chef to avoid.
Beef cheeks were a better choice, and the beans delightfully crisp.
If it wasn't for a doggy bag and a hungry child I would have left half the meal I was so looking forward...
Read moreHi. When I was ordering a Rump steak for my wife whom is allergic to onions, cuccumbers & cabbage. Wanted a small Caesar salad on the side. No they couldn't arrange that. Then just before 8pm we proceeded over to the desserts Cafe. To order a dessert for both of us. After standing for a few minutes waiting, we ask the young lady if we can order some desserts. The reply was. Sorry, we close at 8pm. When I was told this I Immediately look at my watch to see that it was 8.01pm. I immediately headed to main bar to find a manager. & spoke a senior staff member who told me that we should still be able to order some desserts. Who proceeded to head over to the desserts count. Mind you on there webb sit does say that the times for the coffee & light options is open from 8.30am to 10pm & Dinning is open from 4.30pm to 8.30pm Thursday to Saturday & this was Friday night the 28/4/2023. So clearly these time on there webb site are all wrong. You should think about up dating it when these particulars are altered. By the way the Rib filet steak wasn't as tender as it should have been. And What is the point of getting the steaks from Victoria when I can get better steaks locally here in Qld from a...
