Ok... I'm ready to say that a lot of people who were in our group enjoyed their experience. However the restaurant only gets a one star review due to negligence (apparently she was only 15 so what do we expect?), attempted poisoning and rude, arrogant and dismissive staff. Whatever has happened to customer service? My friend has Coeliac Disease. She was pleased to note however that the pre viewed restaurant menu offered gluten free pasta so all was good. When ordering she let the friendly and polite young waitress know that she has Coeliac and the young lady assured her that they could handle that and that the sauce was gluten free as well. All seemed well. When the older, abrupt and dismissive waitress appeared with the food she announced what she had in her hands and my friend just clarified, 'gluten free' and she said no its not gluten free. She just turned and off she went. She returned a surprisingly short time later with a plate of food that she pretty much dropped on the table and she was off again. My friend went to eat it and noticed a large lump of uncooked fish on the plate. My friend took the plate up to the window to chat with them and the woman said chef was trying to do you a favour and get it out quickly. No apology. Just as there was no apology for almost poisoning her with gluten. If she'd eat that she probably would have been incapacitated with vomiting and diarrhoea for days. The waitress just had a go at her for complaining and said my friend was having a go at the young waitress and she shouldn't do that because she's only 15. My friend didn't say ANYTHING about the young waitress at all. Simply that her meal should have been gluten free. And then that she would have preferred to have a COOKED meal rather than speedy. Someone will probably read this review and make some snarky, 'witty' retort as seems to be your style for bad reviews. You know the reason some people only write 1 star reviews is that usually they don't feel passionate enough about something to bother, but when something is really bad, they get on Google and write a review. Really bad form All 'Antica. Very disappointing. Coeliac is a serious disease with serious consequences and staff should be well trained in helping people ensure they have food they can enjoy and won't cause them trauma. I gave you a couple of stars for my Hot Pot which was quite nice.
UPDATE: As per usual, all All'Antica can do is defend their position rather than apologise. Our friends did NOT apologise on our behalf, I asked them. The birthday girl didn't even know what had happened. My friends dish may have been prioritised but it WAS undercooked wasn't it, unless you're in the habit of serving raw fish, and last time I looked you weren't a...
Read moreMy wife and I have a young child and very rarely get the opportunity to go out alone. We were staying at the Sunshine Coast and saw that All' Antica had good reviews so decided we would give it a try.
We arrived and were advised that there were no tables available, but that we could sit in the foyer area. This was no problems and we took our seats.
I ordered a special pizza and my wife ordered a pasta. We also orders two standard drinks. The food came out after about 20 mins, but the drinks were nowhere to be seen. I asked the waitress to follow up and they arrived about 5 minutes later. The pasta was served with just a spoon and the water glasses on the table remained unfilled. Not a problem at most restaurants and would not have bothered me particularly if the rest of the night had not gone terribly
We finished our meal and waited around 15 mins for someone to come to the table to take our dessert order. Most of the other diners had already left so there were three wait staff and five staff in the kitchen. With only 4 tables to serve I thought it strange that we were not being attended to.
After another 10 minutes we got sick of waiting and I walked up to the counter and ordered a tiramisu. We returned to our table and waited another 15 minutes. We gave up waiting and went to pay the bill. I asked the cashier politely to check that the tirimisu was not billed. She confirmed that it wasnt and gave me some story about calling out the order to the kitchen but they had forgotten. At this point the head chef came over and asked what was going on and she explained to him that she had called it out and they then had a conversation about who's fault it was. I gave my credit card which was charged for $69. I asked to see the receipt as it seemed too much for the food we had ordered. The cashier had to find someone to assist with printing a receipt !!!
When I received it, we had indeed been charged for the Tirimisu as well as overcharged on our meals. I had to raise the billing problem three times before it was sorted out. Given that most people don't even ask for their receipt, I dread to think how much overcharging occurs. When the change was still not right the cashier practically threw the remaining change at me.
Certainly not the experience we expected from a restaurant of this purported quality. Its such a shame as the food was good. If the service had been as good then this review would have...
Read moreAnyone of anywhere close to Italian heritage would cry if they had the displeasure of dinning at this establishment. The carbonara is a cream based sauce, if this doesn't tell you how unauthentic this place is, then you might actually like this place. First time going to this place I was picking up a takeaway, I was treated like a moron for not knowing that you pay in one section and pick up in another. I get home to find my carbonara is cream based and the sauce is broken form too much heat, the gorgonzola has dollops of what I am assuming was some form of extremely cheap or out of date anchovy paste on the top which made those spots uneditable. The calzone was burnt and more air than filling. Food was in the bottom 10% of Italian food I eaten, wouldn't recommend to anyone that's actually eaten good Italian before, would be fine for those with absolutely no clue tho...
Update after the owners reply: The owner obviously has about as much clue about how to customers as the cooks have about how to cook. I, like everybody else, want authentic dishes from the nation that the restaurant is based off and not watered down cream based carbonaras like low rent Italian joints have been putting out forever in this country. A contential pasta side dish from the supermarket would of tasted better than what I received. The pasta was so thick that it was way over cooked on the outside and still under cooked in the centre. What should of been guanciale was the cheapest low quality ham they could possibly get their hands on.
It would actually work out to be roughly the same price to make an authentic cabonara from parmigiano reggiano and/or pecorino romano, guanciale, eggs, pepper and water from the pasta cooking. Why should anyone pay you for something they can make shiploads better at home for less money? I'm not even Italian, but I have several friends that are, they would all openly cry if they tasted the food from here. I can come in and teach your cooks and service staff a thing or 20...
