We visited Augello's for lunch on a Monday. We were starving and craving Italian food. We both eat Italian regularly and have spent a lot of time in Italy so maybe we do have higher expectations than some people. We have driven and walked past this place many times and thought we would give it a try. Plus the Google reviews aren't bad. On arrival the service was good, a table was cleaned for us in a cooler area downstairs and the waiters were always checking in to make sure we made an order when we were ready. Can't fault the service. The restaurant and facilities are very clean and tables always cleared promptly. Really good to see in a busy area. Before we even looked at the menu we ordered bruschetta to get us started and give us time to look at the menu. We were extremely disappointed when tomato on toast came out with a large covering of aioli and parsley. The bread was lovely but we expected traditional Italian bruschetta with basil, balsamic, olive oil, garlic, salt, tomato, red onion.....not creamy aioli. We were shocked to see what was on the plate and when questioning the tomato on toast were told "You should have looked at the menu. We have been here making this for 29yrs and it's never been a problem. The aioli has garlic in it." So it was our mistake for not checking out what their version of bruschetta is. We thought ordering bruschetta without looking at a menu when hungry was a safe option, obviously not. After the experience with the aioli my friend decided it safer to not order a pasta dish, but pizza. What can go wrong with pizza right?! Which actually ended up being quite nice (though the $40 price tag was not). I felt like pasta so asked if any of their pasta was home made. At roughly $34 a dish I'd expect homemade pasta. Apart from the gnocchi, they use all pre bought pasta. So I ordered the gnocchi with a vegetarian sauce. The gnocchi was soggy but edible, the sauce was very ordinary so I left most of it. No flavour, watery, and mushy pumpkin in a Napoli sauce was odd. Disappointing. We had a soft drink each. So with the tomato and aioli on toast, 1 pasta dish and 1 pizza and were given a bill of $98.28!! We walked away shocked and disappointed. If you want real Italian food don't bother trying this restaurant, if you want a nice view, a drink and some tomato and aioli on toast with a whopping price tag then this is the...
Read moreI don’t normally leave Google reviews but after last nights experience, I feel that our experience needs to be heard. We went for a friend’s birthday and one of the girls in our group is 4 months pregnant. Our pregnant friend confirmed that they had mocktails in which the waitress said yes and took her through the options. It was confirmed thrice with the waitress that it was definitely a mocktail. When the drinks arrived and our friend received her mocktail, we all sampled because she thought it tasted weird. We chalked up the taste to maybe something added like sparkling water. Our friend got about halfway through her mocktail and the bar tender with short blonde hair came running over and said it was a cocktail. We appreciate that she took ownership and let our friend know so she could stop drinking and we appreciated that the mistake cocktail and her fresh mocktail were free but what we didn’t appreciate was how she handled it. When she took the cocktail away, she made the comment to our friend after being told she was pregnant and seeing that our friend was anxious for her babies health that “you’re fine”. There was no apology or compassion. Our friend left the table in tears to calm down and compose herself. During dinner service, the same bar tender came over and made a horrible comment to our friend. She said “Feeling anything?” And proceeded to laugh and wink at our friend insinuating that our pregnant friend was tipsy. We were genuinely shocked at how this bar tender has handled the situation and how nonchalant she was about putting our friends baby at risk through this mistake. It seemed like she had no concerns and found the situation funny. We understand that mistakes happen and human error happens, especially in hospitality, but we were disgusted in how this lady handled the situation. The situation would be different if she had of handled it differently and showed kindness, compassion, sincerity and was apologetic. Not sarcastic and cavalier about the situation. To the manager: Please have a chat to this worker and take her through emotional intelligence training as well as the adverse side effects of alcohol and what it can do to unborn...
Read moreAfter reading that this place has awards, was looking forward to a nice pizza but was hugely disappointed when the base tasted like a cardboard base from the frozen section in aldi. The taste was average at best, yet no where near the award winning pizza we were excited to try. When arriving at the restaurant on a Monday night, the restaurant was virtually empty, yet we were told that we could only have an hour at a table until another booking came in. This was despite 3/4 of the tables being free throughout the whole time we were there. We were offered still or sparkling water before even having time to read the drinks menu, which gave us the assumption that it was complementary. What we didn’t expect was to walk out of the restaurant feeling ripped off when our bill showed that sparkling water was $15. When confronting the manager we were told that we should not expect for sparkling water to be free. No consideration was taken by the manager, whose name is Peter, who clearly did not care. If we had have known that the sparkling water was $15 a bottle, we would not have gotten it. We also got a vegetarian pizza that we were told would serve 2 for the price of $42. With this price we expected something substantial, although we received a sub-pare joke off a pizza with avocado on top, which wasn’t even enough for the both of us. Don’t go here. The pizza is not award winning, nor do the staff give a shit about any complaint or query, despite their return or...
