Penny Seafood — Restaurant in Sunshine Coast Regional

Drove from North Lakes to Penny seafood to try it as they have high reviews. What can I say… absolutely delicious, amazing and fantastic.

The Fish: The Cod was the size of my forearm and it was so fresh. The battered in the best batter I have ever had. The batter was crispy, golden goodness. For $10 ($9.90) what an absolute bargain.

The burgers: We orders a hamburger and a fish burger. We couldn’t fit either burger in our mouths. The ice berg lettuce was cut in front of us that’s how fresh these burgers were. The sauce on the hamburger was like a home made mayo with mustard seed, a little chilli and a squeeze of lemon. Absolutely delicious. The fish burger was soooo good. The fish was fresh battered fish. Their prawns were so fresh they taste like they were caught that morning. I even bought a kg home of prawns to enjoy after I sleep off the food coma.

The staff: The staff were top notch. The owner was such a happy, bubbly, welcoming person. The islander fella ( sorry if I’m wrong) was such a laugh and even peeled a prawn for me to try. What a legend.

Hands down THE BEST TASTING, FRESHEST SEAFOOD you can ever get! Cleanliness! The restaurant is very clean, tidy and comfortable. No bad cooking oil or fumes smell here.

We came two days in a row, ordered the sea scallops that came with the large roe attached to them, calamari and snapper all on batter, super crispy and light. They nailed it ! Perfect crisp not oily. Chicken salt sprinkle on their chips are a home run. And the fresh oysters… mate! Deliciously fresh and juicy!

If you’re after fresh seafood, top-tier fish and chips, and a side of good banter, Penny’s is the spot. From the moment we walked in, Christian and Penny made us feel like old mates. Christian is an absolute character, a true larrikin with a joke always ready, the kind of personality that turns a quick feed into a wholesome memory.

Now, onto the food the chips dusted with chicken salt were on par with a top-shelf whiskey, smooth, addictive, and hard to stop at just one. The calamari? Next level. Perfect crunch on the outside, tender on the inside, just the right hit of seasoning, and a portion that left us grinning like kids at Christmas. The cod was fresh, flavoursome, and wrapped in a beer batter so good it had me two-stepping my way to the nearest pub craving a lager.

Penny’s isn’t just a fish and chip shop, it’s an experience. You’ll leave full, happy, and with a new appreciation for chicken salt. Do yourself a favour and swing by this place is a gem.
