Absolutely shocking experience with this place last night (18/07/2020). We called in an order for delivery at 6:17pm and paid over the phone. After waiting for over an hour for the food to arrive, I called the restaurant and asked how long it might be for the food to arrive. They said it would be at the door in 20 minutes. Half an hour later, we called again and we were informed that the food was on its way and should arrive in 3 minutes. Quarter of an hour later and still no food. We called back again and we were repeatedly told 5 more minutes. After 15 minutes of being told 5 minutes, we called back to cancel the order and get a refund and speak to a manager. We were told there was no manager or supervisor that we could talk to. Again we were told “2 more minutes”. Eventually we told them we did not want the food anymore (it had been on the road for around 40 minutes at this point and would probably have been cold by the time it finally arrived) and that we would come to the store for a refund. After leaving for the store we got a call from a kitchen staff member who offered to refund us from his personal account. We refused as we didn’t want want him to have to give us his own money. We arrived at the store and got our refund. Meanwhile the food had arrived at the house 2 full hours after the initial call but was turned away by family members still at home. The kitchen staff memember was incredibly helpful and kind when dealing with the refund, the same cannot be said for the servers. Fault lies completely with the absent manager who left waitstaff and kitchen staff alone, without proper training, to manage the...
Read moreThank you for your response. I’d like to address a few important points. Firstly, there was no clear signage or communication about the 20% public holiday surcharge prior to ordering.
If you have signage at the counter, the orders in your restaurant are taken at the table and therefore the signage was not visible prior to placing an order, and was not mentioned by your staff at the time of the order been taken. In relation to public holiday surcharges, typically they range between 10-15%, making your surcharge significantly higher than standard practice.
Secondly, I was deeply disappointed by the language used in your response, including calling me an 'idiot.' I would suggest to anybody reading this review to ask themselves if this is the type of business owner they wish to support. I believe I am owed an apology for this inappropriate treatment.
I will be lodging a formal complaint with the Queensland Office of Fair Trading. My complaint will address the lack of clear surcharge disclosure prior to ordering. I hope this feedback encourages you to address these issues and be more honest and forthcoming about your charges on future...
Read moreRecently made a booking at the Shalimar Restaurant for 21 people (part of a social group), and the staff went out of their way to make this a wonderful experience. The tables and seating were arranged inside and we were all comfortable. There are some areas outside on decking, which were utilised by other patrons, and this area would be great in the summer. Everyone was pleased with their food. There is an extensive menu which caters for all tastes. I had the Garlic Nan bread with my curry, and it was perfect. As this event was for a large number of people, the restaurant gave us a discount on the BYO cost. It made a big difference.
Cash is still king, but when paying with credit card there is a surcharge unfortunately.
We finished our main course, and to our amazement, the staff brought out a Cake with Candles, as an act of goodwill for such a special event. There was no charge for this, and the cake was so delicious. Not many restaurants in Mooloolaba or Maroochydore would go to this length for their patrons.
A good time was had by all, and there is no doubt that our group will be returning to 'Shalimar' at...
