18/6/24 fried or steamed dumplings fine - made by two ladies - we’re just avoiding the noodles prepared in neighbour shop since that flavour went down the toilet. 2024 - no longer good - new management - gone from excellent food to bad food and slow service - pity - we enjoyed this since 1991 - looks like the old guy has sold and the new management is not up to speed as of January 2024 so we've stopped going. 2023 I see the confusion continues - as people have added reviews here for up to FOUR different restaurants with similar names - 3 facing Quay St and 1 facing Thomas St on the other side courtyard of the Prince Centre. My reviews are for QG14 the middle unrenovated one facing Quay St. Fried dumplings were on point today - beautifully crispy bottom, pork garlic chives filling, just right with a half spoon of the provided chili, soy sauce and vinegar. Happy tummy. if you order a noodle dish and hear a loud BANG!!! from the kitchen, that’s your handmade noodles coming up. when you don’t want hot (temperature) food try the spicy shallot [cold] beef salad small $10 (see my pic) - tasty - rinse the chili oil off your lips with the free oolong tea 10/8/22 new menu with new opening of second same name restaurant next door south towards Broadway (not the corner nearer Paddy’s Market - looks like the original owner is back - the violinist?! 🎻 27/4/21 there are two identical-named restaurants side by side facing Quay St - used to be same owner but now separate and no longer the same food or cooks - so there is a lot of confusion between these two neighbours as I only see one site showing in Google Maps. and that’s even without the confusion over similarly but slightly differently named restaurants at the rear of the block/in the next street/same building but facing Thomas St ... I’m reviewing the unrenovated middle one at QG14 - second from the corner of the lane - not the newer looking lane-corner one at QG13 - interestingly the March 2021 Google Streetview pic of both shows the same name in English and Chinese - but Shop 14 owner assures me there are different owners now and probably since 2017 - so different food baby ! I've only eaten at Shop 14 - the second from the corner since the corner Shop 13 was renovated and the food didn't taste so good to me anymore then. It may have changed since COVID. My older reviews to 2019 were for the corner Shop 13 now renovated - my reviews since 2020 are for the middle/unrenovated Shop 14. 19/3/21 2 grilled lamb skewers the best I’ve had here - juicy - I ask for no chilli as it’s damn tasty already dusted with cumin - these days I try a different dish every time and they’re always good and interesting - we eat here at least once a fortnight - rubs tummy 15/1/21 beef and shallot filled pancake about $7 and freshly made dumplings hit the spot for me for lunch - my partner said a bit salty but it was just right for me 29/9/20 North Chinese food - this name, shop number 14, address, review is for the one facing Quay St, second from the corner of Thomas Lane - https://goo.gl/maps/X7n94ek6DP9LvEYPA - [not the one shown in most pix here showing shop TG2 Chinese Noodle House facing Thomas St] - this does char-grilled lamb skewers (better than next door on the corner which deep fries them so you only taste the oil) the two side-by-side restaurants with the same name on the street awning used to be owned by the same guy who used to play his violin out the front but he sold and they are now two separately run restaurants - tho' you do still see staff running between them occasionally. Cold sliced beef with julienned shallots is good but comes covered with chili oil - you have been warned - feel the burn ! (lotsa cupsa tea...) Try the wrapped pancakes - warm soft flat bread around chicken or beef, cooked beansprouts and egg - pretty satisfying - 3 dishes was too much for us 2 people at lunch today so we took the leftovers home.

I tried the one located at the corner of Quay St and Thomas Ln. The waitress girl is sooo coool! To avoid card surcharge, I searched every pocket for the last 10 cents but I failed.... so I decided to pay by card and the girl known and let me left with a 10 cents discount!!! Thanks for that!!! Good homemade noodles, definitely recommend the mutton and bread piece in soup! Lamb tasted nice! No recommend the noodles in soup with stewed flank beef. The soup tasted like Japanese style, too light for me. Chicken thigh cutlets are used in Chicken and potato stew on noodles, this is definitely amazing. But the flavor is very simple. Just spicy from red cayenne like chillies. The dish needed more salt, more peppercorns, more soy sauce and more herbals.

Had wonton noodle soup, 6 x pork dumplings and meat in a toasted bun. Quick service. The noodles, wontons and dumplings had a wonderful chewy texture and lovely flavour. A popular place to eat. My wife and I ate for a cost of $25.00 ( and change) plus card surcharge taking the total price to $26.19. TBH i think the surcharge is too high. I didn't see the surcharge advertised. My calculation is that the surcharge is around 2%. Up to you if you think it's too high. Back to the food. Good food. Fast service. Next day:. Our children came and ate with us. Again the food is really good. Worth it.

Absolutely DISGUSTING and DISGRACEFUL. How can this place be a 4 stars? I must got sucked into a black hole of this exact same restaurant with a - 5 STARS situated at a parallel universe or some sort. Went for a late dinner before closing, ordered up a noodle and a tofu dish to go with rice (specified wanting rice). The waitress who took our orders replied "Sure". When my noodle showed up, it was absolutely stone cold. Seconds laters the tofu dish descended. The waitress placed down the dish and before walking away, she casually told us " Oh we ran out of rice". As if it's absolutely unimportant and we supposed to just accept the reality and eat up that salty dish of tofu on its own. SURE. Told her if that's the case, we weren't going to have the tofu dish at all. She looked so shocked and confused at first as if we were the unreasonable ones, then started arguing " but, but it's the same?!" " Or do you want noodles? " I am sorry but HOW is this the same? It's like you order a dish of pasta then when the meal finally comes, they bring to you only sauce and tell you they just sold out on pasta. And NO, we don't want to change to anything else. I started losing my patience and told her "You need to tell us before we ordered if you ran out of anything." You would've thought as common sense ya? Well apparently not. She walked away babbling to others, moments later, magically a dish of rice appeared without apology or any kind. Only the rice CAME STRAIGHT FROM A TAKE AWAY CONTAINER. How did I know it? Because the rice was still in square shape, and you could've even seen the bottom shape of the container if you were not blind. So the rice wasn't only cold, they didn't even have the decency to break it apart or microwave it just so customers wouldn't discover its origins. So did we eat left over rice sitting in the refrigerator for days? Most likely. Taste of food? 2 out of 5 given everything was stone cold. Not to mention the rice. Customer service and the integrity of the restaurant? - 5 STARS. The worst restaurant I've been to for the entire 35 years of my life. Some restaurants serve bad food but at least you could tell they've tried. This place? All of the workers there are in desperate needs to be sent to a hospitality camp to learn the basics...

This place is an absolute disaster.

I waited to make a takeaway order in the restaurant, and the waiter ignored me and served the family behind me (possibly because I’m white and they were Chinese)

When they seated the family, they took their order first and I had to wait 5min before the waiter came back to take takeaway orders. Another young Chinese man was standing behind me, and the waiter tried to serve him first. The young man politely asked me if I had already ordered and I said no. The waiter only then reluctantly took my order.

The food finally arrives after 15mins (it’s only one noodle dish and two lamb skewers), and they only give me the noodle dish. I asked where the skewers were, and he asked me, ‘how many did you order?’. I told him I ordered two, and then he told the kitchen to prepare them.

I waited another 15 mins for the skewers and asked where how much longer they would be. The waiter replied ‘we’re very busy you will have to wait’. I told him to forget about it and just refund me for the skewers and I’ll take the noodles.

I was refunded for my skewers, however when walking home I double checked the takeaway container, and it was the wrong dish!! I walked back to double check, and they confirmed it was something else. The manager yelled at the waiter and told me they will make it in a few minutes, i told him to just forget about it and give me a refund, which he did and apologised.

All in all, I wasted 1 hour to get a simple order, was ignored by the waiter, given an incomplete and incorrect order.

Will never try eating there again.

Don’t bother coming here and wasting your time. The waitstaff will ignore you unless you are Chinese, and will probably just forget what you...
