Fantastic cafe in Sydney CBD. Literally GREAT food and coffee. Safe to walk right in and submit your orders.

Located right below the small bridge that links to the Pyrmont bridge, Avenue in Sussex has been around for a while and they’ve endured bad economy and covid.

I’ve walked past this cafe so many times and wanted to sit down and actually try what they have to offer.

I had the Famhouse Omelette: Three egg open omelete with field mushrooms, roma tomato, cheddar cheese, sautéed spinach, topped with crispy shallots and served with crusty sourdough. I also tasted mozzarella cheese.

What a GREAT portion! The omelette visually had the WOW factor and it was beautifully displayed on a wooden board. Even the sourdough was extra large. And I got two.

All the ingredients inside the omelette were fresh, made sense, and it was very well cooked by the chef.

I was certainly very full.

Now Coffee. It had to be great as the cafe is surrounded by a lot of office buildings.

I ordered flat white. Good quality coffee beans with nice caffeine kick, it wasn’t burnt, and milk froth was silky just like how it should be.

Btw I don’t work here or related to the owner.

For these reasons I give this place above...

Totally disappointing. Checked menu online for prices beforehand. Thought it was very reasonable. When we received the menu all prices were much higher. On pointing this out I was told website hadn’t been updated!! Food was just ok. When we went to pay once again pointed out discrepancy & asked for discount. After much discussion was told that online prices were for takeaway. No mention of this online. No discount given. Won’t be returning.

Response from restaurant - Google put the take-away menu online! Let’s blame...

Very nice fresh food, good sizes, super friendly staff, we had one of the best male waiters in a long time... he was fast, smart and super efficient, we personally went with pacients, saw the place super full, lunch time, so it is understandable the waiting time, but we saw a lot of tables leaving without getting the chance to eat or taking take over... in this moment they is a construction zone 10 meters away so the only quite time is between 12pm and 2pm. Anyway super...

Stopped by for drinks on way back to hotel. Were drawn in by the superb live music (very Peter Frampton-esque guitar playing). A cold winters' night was soon warmed up with a couple of glasses of very nice mulled wine and sitting next to one of the fires going. Easy going friendly bar staff too.
