Stayed in Mantra on Kent for 2 nights. I am not sure if I will even bother to write this review. But anyway here it goes. Firstly, I want to say that I stay in Mantra because I am an Accor member. Otherwise, I probably won't even bother. So, check in was okay although Tatiana the Assistant Manager could use some training on Customer Service and hopefully realise that smiling is part of being in that job. The unpleasant check in experience was mitigated by the welcome pack she organised in my room, which made my day a bit better. The room was clean but very very cold. This is the only Hotel I have ever stayed in without a reversed cycle aircon/heater. The room however have portable heaters. One in the lounge room, and a tiny one in the bedroom. The tiny heater made loud noise but it was sufficient for the bathroom. I also agree with one of the reviews that there is no daily housekeeping. I left the please tidy the room up sign on my second day, only to return to the same room condition I left it on. It was bit disappointing but I let it go given I am only staying for one more night. Plus I kind of understand that maybe they are still under staff. Overall stay wasn't too bad because I didn't have too high expectations. The only Staff that had a good Customer Service was the other girl in the Reception in the afternoon/night shift. Unfortunately I don't remember how to spell her name, but I know it starts with C. I am so sorry for not remembering but hopefully Mantra would provide the Staff a name tag. She was the only one that smiled, which made a difference. Breakfast - I booked and paid for breakfast for my last day. So the next day came and I thought I would leave my suitcase and check out before breakfast. After breakfast, I went back to the reception only to be told by the male receptionist that I need to pay for breakfast. I told him that I have paid for breakfast, and also told him that he was at the Reception when I paid for it the night before. It was a bit RUDE but hopefully again he will learn about better customer service next time, after I had a word.
To Mantra, please fix your cold room, send your Staff to Customer Service training, and hire Staff who actually want to do that kind of job, please.
I usually also get an email survey request after a stay but I didn't get an email this time. ...
Read moreMantra on Kent is a good spot. Right in the heart of the CBD and close to everything you need.
Check-in was easy, and the rooms were accessed by key cards. The restaurant was shut which was unfortunate, but there are plenty of food options around the hotel. There's no pool, but there is a gym.
As for the rooms, they're relatively clean (except for a bit of mould around the base of the shower).
The beds are reasonably comfortable. Standard for hotels, but the king size bed is just two king singles pushed together. Makes it uncomfortable if you slide into the gap between the two mattresses.
I don't think I've been to any hotel in the past 7 years where I've had to pay for internet, but for some reason, Mantra thinks that's cool and normal. Not a great experience. Super grumpy about this one.
The TVs are pretty old, so you can't just plug a Chromecast into a USB slot, and from what I established, the TV only offers free to air channels. Bring a laptop (and a phone with enough data to hotspot off) if you want to watch anything good while you stay.
The aircon is so bloody cold. I nearly froze to death in the middle of the night, so it's really great for a hot summer day.
There's some decent pump bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in the shower. No little guys you can take home though 😅
The styling could use a bit of an upgrade, and we would've loved some extra blankets and a more comfortable, roomy couch for our little staycation.
The lifts in the building were really struggling during peak checkout. It took literally 10 minutes for the lift to arrive and get us to the ground floor.
Overall, the...
Read moreFirst time staying amd unfortunately wouldnt return. Reception staff not very friendly. Not that that matters too much. Room was not as pictured on the app. Again realise pictures don't always reflect room but one thing I hate is a shower and tub combo. We went with this room as the bathroom image had seperate walk in shower but wasn't the case in reality. We got the dredded combo. If your over 6 foot dont stay here. The bed is also one of those beds that join together and you feel that hard section through the middle like just two singles pushed together. Another hate of mine when paying almost 250 per night mid week i expect a normal full bed. I have also come to expect smart tvs for this premium price, or at least a way to share own device to tv. But this wasnt the case. Just an older stule 32inch tv with free to air only. During our stay one lift was broken. Again bad timing and luck but waiting 16 minutes for the lift was ridiculous. Everyone was complaining and rightly so. This lasted two days. Overall the price wasn't worth this hotel. Much better properties within a stones through for the same price. They also do not make up your room unless requested. Again for the price paid you would expect daily housekeeping without having to request it. Also, parking through accor direct was 55 per night. The parking garage is right next door. If you book direct with Wilson Parking it's 30 per night. Hot tip and also don't like that the property almost doubles this fee. Bit of...
