Billy's has an interesting set up and one which might not appeal to everyone. The actual pub is located on the first floor up a flight or two of stairs while s pockey gaming are is tucked away downstairs just off the street entrance.
The seating area upstairs at the main bar is actually quite but and broken up into two areas. The food is quite decent and good deals exist mainly during lunch and dinner time during the weekdays. Decor is somewhat original but cosey enough to give you that traditional old pub feel. It can actually get quite packed at lunchtimes with large groups and office workers converging for anything from a quick bite to team luncheons to afternoon drinks.
In terms of service it's variable and I guess that goes with the territory in the service industry. Individuals can make or break your experience so overall from the multiple times I've been there myself I'd rate this as about average. In terms of ambience and vibe is not modern and not overpowered with high amp music so if you are after a decent place to chill with no pretentiousness and then this is certainly a good find in that respect. Also located directly across the road from North Sydney station so definitely handy for anyone having a big night out. Overall I don't mind this place as the food is good, the space is quite big and the location and relaxed atmosphere make this a real good alternative to the more conventional pubs and...
Read moreMy hotel has a very expensive restaurant so I went across the street to Billy Barry's Pub for lunch. They have reasonably priced food options. Many of the great prices on the menu are prices with a drink, presumably priced separately. I generally don't indulge in alcoholic beverages at lunch time so I ordered the grilled salmon platter which didn't require a concurrent drink order.
Just so you'll know, this pub encourages drinking alcohol at lunch time. They have as part of the decor, several signs saying, "A meal without wine is called breakfast."
Anyway, the salmon was delicious. It was grilled just right. Not too rare, not too well done. There were cherry tomatoes and asparagus with a very nice Bearnaise sauce drizzled on. It's served on a bed of buttery mashed potatoes. The chef is clearly a very talented person.
There is one significant issue for which I removed the fifth star. You have to walk up a flight of stairs to get to the pub. But if you are not disabled this is a great place for lunch.
I highly...
Read moreI recently organised an event at Billy Barry's function room, the experience was brilliant. The service was exceptional, and the staff went above and beyond to ensure a seamless event. The menus provided something for everyone, and it was evident that careful attention was given to both quality and presentation. All the partygoers had plenty of food and the staff were amazing at timing the delivery of the selections. The function area was large, spacious, and bright. The ability to arrange the space into different party zones added a dynamic element to our event, allowing for various activities and atmospheres. Despite being recently renovated, the venue accommodated our desire to personalize the space by allowing us to decorate the walls and ceiling for our themed night. This flexibility made our experience even more enjoyable, as we could create a unique and festive ambiance. Overall, the combination of a well-designed space and the freedom to customize made our event at Billy Barry's...
