Booked a table to celebrate my dad's 80th birthday. When only half our dishes turned up after quite some time, we followed up with a waiter. Turns out he was about as keen to follow up with our order as the interest rates are to come down.
We followed up some time later with a different waiter and it turns out that the waitress who took our order didn't write down all of our orders from the main menu. Regarding our missing dishes from the dim sum menu (separate ordering system), our order had apparently followed the path of Amelia Earhart and never made it to the kitchen.
Even though we were clear in our order with the waitress, we were shown the order pad for the main dishes and continuously told that we had not ordered anything else. Heaven forbid that it was the waitress that had made the mistake given the fact that they had managed to also lose our dim sum order form. No apologies regarding Tintin and the mystery of the missing dim sum order. We were simply given a new form and told to reorder if we still wanted those dishes.
Despite the overwhelming desire to continue our meal in this blissful ambience and given the sporadic delivery of the dishes that did make it to our table, we decided to pull up stumps. What had meant to be a joyous occasion had quickly become as solemn as Germany's World Cup run.
When it came to paying the bill I voiced my displeasure in English to the staff at the till that our experience was terrible given that it was dad's birthday, the service was bad and there were a number of dishes that never arrived (5 dishes never made it). No apologies from the staff but instead some utterance in Cantonese between them right in front of our face. Suffice to say, I didn't leave a tip but here's one: Don't assume that a person can only understand one language.
If you want to fork out triple digits and end up disappointed, grab some platinum tickets to watch the Wallabies of late. Or celebrate a milestone birthday here. Haven't been so outraged since Henry Cavill's departure from The Witcher but that's a grievance for...
Read moreThis Chinese restaurant serves yum cha during lunchtime and is also a fully operating restaurant for the dinner service. Located within walking distance of the North Sydney train station, buses and Victoria Cross Metro station, it is rather convenient to get to. As it is attached to Greenwood Plaza, the parking available for patrons is also located within the same building. Highlights and tips from a relatively recent visit: Order is placed by writing down the portions against the menu item of choice. Once completed, attract the attention of the waiter to pass the order. Service is just ok and pretty hard to catch the attention of restaurant staff. The staff are also not very attentive to the customers and are also not friendly. They are also not very mindful of food allergies or dietary requirements. For yum cha/ dim sum choices, they have a number of the classics and usual fanfare that one can expect from a yum cha restaurant. The beef balls, white bait and egg tarts were my winning choices in terms of food. All other types that I have tried were ok but nothing to shout about. The tea is ok but not what I would deem as good quality tea but still ok. They can accommodate large and small groups of diners. Atmosphere is pretty much like a standard chinese restaurant that one can expect. They have toilet facilities available but will need to go through a passageway and via a different part of the restaurant.
For folks in the lower north shore of Sydney, it is not a bad choice to go to. For folks who aint from the local area, it is easy to get to by public transport or by...
Read moreWe went for a family gathering and order a few dishes. When the spicy chicken arrived. It is totally different from the picture, instead of a deep fried chicken stirred fry with dry chilli. They use a sweet and sour sauce to make it. We ask the server for this dish and he said he can’t help us. This is how their chef made it, despite I highlight how this is sweet and sour and completely different from the photo in the menu. The server said he is not going tot ell the chef how we felt about this dish is “ sweet and sour”. He said he will get in trouble and won’t help us. Within 5 mins, the female boss revived and told the dish away without asking us what ‘a wrong with this dish. We told her this is not spicy but sweet and sour taste. This owner is very arrogant and said this is how they make” spicy chicken”. The attitude of the waiter and owner are both unhelpful, unfriendly and arrogant, they are not trying to come with a common solution but insist this is what the dish should be. As in food and service industry, I cannot accept this level of rudeness and attitude. Their food is alway in the proxy range and I think they have declined on their performance for such a long time. I will never retune and I will ensure all my friend become aware of the issue from the waiter to the chef, to the owner. They don’t deserve a...
