Biwon in Hornsby is a pretty decent korean restaurant that seems to be pretty packed each time I come here. I've been here a few times. Located close to Hornsby station and there is street parking nearby, it is pretty easy to get to. Tips & highlights: - The restaurant is pretty clean, and staff are generally attentive. Order is placed with the staff directly - Unlike some of the other Korean restaurants, Biwon doesn't have a call button. - They accept both cash & card. Certain dishes like the fried chicken have a discount when paying by cash. - They have a good selection of banchan (side dishes) that are refillable. - The fried chicken and ginseng chicken soup is nice. Good crisp with the fried chicken & tasty. The soup is tasty, too, though the chicken is the size of a small spring chicken. In some ways, I wished it was larger. Also, different from other Korean restaurants, Biwon serves the ginseng chicken cut up. - The pork trotters braised in soya sauce & spices was probably the least liked dish for me. Unlike other places, the meat was not that tender and felt like 1/3 of the portion comparatively. It was also of a lesser amount in terms of protein compared to my previous visit when we ordered the steamed pork belly with vegetables. Flavour wise, too, it was quite lacklustre. The other food items & their banchan salvaged the food ratings here for me. - There is a flexible exhaust that is above the bbq stove that patrons can use to absorb the smoke from the bbq cooking. - Chilled tap water available. - During busy hours, it can be a bit of a wait. There is a queue system. If mealtimes are flexible for you, it is possible to go during non-busy hours to walk in. Overall, it was quite a pleasant eatery to patronise, though i would be selective in what i order. There can be hits and misses.

The restaurant has a nice atmosphere, it was fairly quiet when we arrived about 5pm. They have friendly staff and a sizeable menu, consisting of mostly Korean cuisine with a handful of Chinese dishes scattered through. I had a small black bean noodle and found the serving size was about double what I would usually consume, it had a very homely taste and was not too salty. My wife had the fish roe soup, and felt the taste was pretty average, it didn't contain as much fish roe or tofu as other Korean restaurants we visit regularly in Hornsby and Eastwood. Instead it was mostly bean sprouts and onion. 10 Side dishes are included with specific menu items, and were a welcome change from the usual selection available. There were more pickled dishes, rather than the many sweet and savoury ones at other restaurants, and they tasted good. There was one that tasted like jellyfish, it was clear, with similar crunchiness and texture, lightly covered in mayonnaise. We were told it was a type of seaweed. Biwon Korean BBQ has an extensive range of bbq dishes in the menu, but we didn't try them on this occasion. If you want to pay by card, the minimum spend is $30.

Dinner time is usually very packed. Our first visit during Friday dinner was turned down in quite an unwelcomed manner by the staff. Make sure you have your reservation for dinner! I went again during weekday lunch and the crowd was much smaller. The preparation time was quite slow, more than 15minutes, given the small crowd. This can be improved. Food was generally quite good. Spicy seafood soup with rice, 4/5. I personally think Kangnam BBQ one is better. Japchae was very mediocre, too sweet and salty, and too wet for my liking. There was very little meat in it too. 3/5. Beef rib soup, 2/5. The meat was very chewy as you can see from the leftover (in picture). Flavour was decent, but it seemed that it wasn't stewed long enough for the essence of the meat to be fully infused into the soup. Beef bulogi, 4/5. Pretty decent, but nothing too impressive. Side dishes were in generous portion, but tasted mediocre. Kimchi was very good though. Price 5/5. Very reasonably priced. However, I'd be happy to pay more for better tasting food. If you are in the area for Korean food, I'd suggest Kangnam BBQ over this one.

If there was a 0 stars option I would absolutely rate this place 0 stars. The service they provided was pretty horrific. To begin with I found 2 pieces of hair in the meat I ordered. We said something the first time, they continued to argue with us saying that is it our fault and it couldn't be their hair as it wasn't "asian hair". I looked into the kitchen to find about 7 staff all with their hair out, no hair nets, nothing tied up. If you're working around food, it is COMMON SENSE to tie your hair back or wear a hair net. The second time around they still continued to argue with us. If a customer comes to you telling you they've found hair in their food, DON'T argue with them??????? Seriously but what sort of customer service is that???? The staff continued to make a massive deal about this, causing a huge drama. When we went to leave, they just assumed that we were refusing to pay, even though we never even thought to do that. They then threatened to call the police on us? We walked out (quite unhappy), no one bothered to even look at us or say thankyou. Do not go here unless you want a mouthful of hair with every piece of meat you eat. Terrible...
