BL Burgers — Restaurant in Sydney

I have NEVER in my 27 years experienced service like this from a restaurant.

I called to order take away, the guy on the phone said they don’t do phone orders (which is odd because I did last week & told him). He still refused so I said I’ll pull over & order on the app - he then said he’d do it??

I ordered 2 burgers & I asked for “a side of fries”. He asked if I want a meal which I then clarified no I want a separate side of fries. He repeated my order which he must have said “loaded fries” when I thought he said “large fries” (he had a very thick accent & broken English) so I must have misunderstood him, but I never asked for loaded fries in the first place which is why I just assumed he must have said “large”.

I arrived & paid for my order which I realised was more expensive than I thought. I then showed him how much it should be & he said I ordered loaded fries. I said no I didn’t… I just wanted normal fries but he said I’d have to pay extra for them.

He then proceeded to argue with me for TEN minutes about how he said on the phone “loaded fries” & I kept telling him I never asked for that & he refused to accept that there was a miss communication & that there was a very simple solution to the problem that all restaurants do - just remake it correctly…

I asked him to have someone else come talk to me & he was so rude & literally said no. Eventually after more back & forth - he went out the back & came back & said that “they’re busy & can’t come talk to you”. He then started serving another customer & doing other things while continuing to ignore me. I said I’m not leaving until the mistake is rectified (more so because I was so SHOCKED at his disgusting attitude)

Eventually a chef came to bring out someone’s burger who I quickly interrupted & explained there was a mistake - he went & got me normal fries with NO hesitation & offered me a $6 refund (SIMPLE NORMAL SOLUTION)

I’m convinced the guy at the register never even spoke to anyone because as expected, it was a very simple rectification.

Even if the mistake was my fault, which it wasn’t. It was a clear language barrier, he even pointed at the word “shoestring fries” and said “I can’t say this word so I said loaded fries”. What??? He also said that they don’t take phone orders because this keeps happening. Again ??? There is clearly a common language miscommunication issue.

I don’t even have a problem with mistakes or am in no way racist, my immigrant parents owned a fast food restaurant for 20 YEARS, I am more than understanding miscommunication & mistakes happen. It was the disgusting attitude & absolute REFUSAL & constant arguing that didn’t end until another worker coincidentally appeared.

Seriously cannot wrap my head around what this guy was thinking in arguing with a customer over some...

Staff at the Darlinghurst store vary between gruff and unpleasant - to the extremely rude. It fits the rest of the place which is a low rent diner with a clientele more suited to the carpark of a Macca's at 1am than anywhere you'd want to eat.

Burgers are good enough - but frankly nothing special. The gauntlet of their surly staff and menu which randomly includes or excludes extras makes it a pain in the @#$% and the burgers are NOT THAT GOOD.

Stay away and try one of the half dozen competitors within 3 minutes walk. Having been told by a member of staff that 'they didn't make decisions' and 'didn't care what I said because they'd already quit' - I walked 300m to Grill'd where a friendly and welcoming staffer took my order, thanked me for coming in and told me it would be about 10 minutes.

Stark contrast to the bad mannered, badly trained, couldn't care less types at BL. When I rang to tell their other store in Parramatta - all I got was an empty apology. I doubt they'll last long in this buyer's market. The place was empty except for me ... and I was...

Another on point outstanding quality burger 🍔 shop in Sydney CBD area checked out whilst I'm down here for work. It's not huge in size- being a small shop along a busy part of Darlinghurst, and with so many other places too eat this should definitely be on your go to list for great eats. Friendly staff and quick service, not too many people eating in which was good for me and easy ordering and grabbing a table. I ordered the Mac daddy with maple 🍁 bacon 🥓 and made it a combo meal with chips and coke. Reasonable prices and extensive range, it was absolutely fantastic, tasty and delicious 😋 Highly recommended for anyone who wants a fantastic burger around the area.
