Bourke st bakery is an institution.. the pies are fantastic, the range of options on condiments and good coffee make it a stand out However.... What is with toasting sandwiches in Australia? They toast by default, and every sandwich is pressed into flat tasteless crunch. The salad is limp, the cheese and other ingredients are lost It isnt just this place, it's nationwide. Has Australia got an issue with stale bread? I ordered a roast beef sandwich.. and they asked do I want toasted I said no, they recommend it should be!!! Why? I didn't want to offend so I agreed, but I got a jaffle instead of a nice sandwich on soft bread, the roast beef wasn't rare, it was cooked grey

Here, I was reluctantly "greeted" by an Asian-looking female staff who looked as though she'd rather be serving someone else. (By the way, I'm an Asian-looking female as well so it's a little ironic.) Fortunately, another much friendlier staff took my order. From now on, think I'll be heading to the Marrickville branch to satisfy my Bourke Street Bakery...
Read moreI was introduced to Bourke Street by my boss 2 months back. I have been to their outlets in Parramatta, North Sydney and Alexandria. I just absolutely love it. I was hooked to their cheese and tomato pizza but they discontinued it for some reason. I love the pear danish and their coffee. They have a cosy outlet in North Sydney and might be difficult to get a seating. The outlets at parramatta and North Sydney are comapratively bigger. Service is excellent and food is always fresh.
